Recap

William & Mary rallied from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter and defeated the University at Albany football team, 25-22, on Saturday in a Colonial Athletic Association game at Zable Stadium.

The Tribe overcame a 221-yard performance from running back Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks in snapping a three-game losing streak.

Ibitokun-Hanks and Karl Mofor each ran for touchdowns for the Great Danes (2-3, 0-2 CAA), who also got three field goals from Ethan Stark.

UAlbany went ahead 22-10 on Stark’s 28-yard field goal with 7:03 to play. But William & Mary answered less than two minutes later with DeVonte Dedmond’s 17-yard touchdown catch, and Shon Mitchell scored the winning TD on a 6-yard run with 50 seconds to go.

Dedmond also had scored the game’s first touchdown when he hauled in a 50-yard touchdown less than three minutes after the opening kickoff.

But in the second quarter, following Stark’s 32-yard field goal, Ibitokun-Hanks gave the Great Danes the lead back with a big play of his own. He took a direct snap, ran to his left and then zoomed through the defense for a 36-yard touchdown run, putting UAlbany ahead, 10-7, with 10:31 left in the quarter.

The teams traded field goals in the final two minutes of the first half, and the Great Danes went to the intermission ahead, 13-10.

Mofor opened up the lead in the fourth quarter, finishing a seven-play, 80-yard drive with a 1-yard TD run. His score gave the Great Danes their biggest lead to that point, 19-10, with 12:38 to play.

UAlbany appeared to be well-positioned when Stark followed with his third field goal five minutes later. But the Tribe scored on the next two possessions, the first on a four-play, 73-yard drive that took just 1:46 and cut the lead to 22-17.

William & Mary then took the lead on Mitchell's touchdown run and added a two-point conversion.

Up next

UAlbany is home the next two weeks. The Great Danes face Richmond at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, and then Towson at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, in two CAA contests.
