Score: Dartmouth 1, UAlbany 0 (OT)

Location: Burnham Field in Hanover, N.H.

Records: UAlbany (3-6-0); Dartmouth (2-4-2)

Short Story: The UAlbany men’s soccer team kicked off a four-game road trip with a 1-0 overtime loss at Dartmouth on Tuesday.

Coach Gorman: “Tonight was probably our best performance of the year.  We controlled the ball, outshot the four-time defending Ivy League champions on their home field, and did a lot of good things.  Unfortunately, our sport can be cruel.  We probably didn’t deserve to lose tonight and that’s always tough to accept.  We will build on the positives and get ready for our conference match Saturday at Hartford.”

Key Stats

  • UAlbany outshot Dartmouth 6-2 in the first half, and 11-9 for the game
  • UAlbany drew four corner kicks in the first half
  • Each team recorded two shots on goal

Recap

The University at Albany men’s soccer team returned to the road for the first of four consecutive games away from Tom & Mary Casey Stadium on Friday visiting Dartmouth.  The Great Danes fell in overtime to the Big Green 1-0.

Dartmouth entered the game having won at least a share of each of the last four Ivy League titles, and had been ranked #23 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, but had only won one game on the season so far.  UAlbany came out in the first half controlling tempo, outshooting the Big Green 6-2 and drawing four corner kicks to Dartmouth’s zero.  Despite the pressure, the game entered halftime with neither team notching a goal.

Shots and corner kicks fell more evenly in the second half, with Dartmouth holding a narrow advantage in each, 6-5 in shots and 3-2 in corner kicks.  The second half similarly went by without a score, and UAlbany entered its fourth overtime game of the season.

Dartmouth quickly capitalized in overtime, scoring the game-winning goal within the first minute of extra time.  UAlbany falls to 3-6 overall this season and 1-3 in overtime games.

Next: UAlbany’s road trip continues with a return to America East play on Saturday, September 29 at Hartford.
