Men's Soccer Visits Quinnipiac

UAlbany Sports Information   09-14-2018

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men’s soccer team will play its third straight game on the road Saturday when they visit Quinnipiac for an afternoon kickoff.

The Great Danes’ (3-3-0) current road trip, the second longest of the season, has already taken the team through Rhode Island for a weekend slate against Providence and Brown. UAlbany fell to Providence but bounced back two days later to beat Brown. The victory over the Bears brought UAlbany back to .500 on the season, and represented the 26th career victory for goalkeeper Danny Vitiello, who moved into sole possession of first place in program history in the category.

Quinnipiac last played at then-#8 North Carolina State, falling to the Wolfpack 1-0. The Bobcats are currently winless on the season, but have only lost one game by more than one goal. Quinnipiac is returning home after playing its previous three games on the road, and hasn’t played at home since August 27 against UMass Lowell.

UAlbany is currently fifth in the America East standings. Preseason conference favorite UMass Lowell remains the lone undefeated team at 5-0-1. Vermont, New Hampshire, and UMBC each have one loss. In the latest United Soccer Coaches’ national poll, UMass Lowell is ranked 15th and Vermont is ranked 24th, and New Hampshire is receiving votes.

Following the game against Quinnipiac, the Great Danes will play their first home game in 18 days next Friday, September 21, when they host Stony Brook in the America East opener.
