ALBANY, N.Y. –Dev Holmes’ sensational collegiate debut has earned him the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week Award, the league announced Monday, Sept. 3.
The freshman wide receiver from Troy, N.Y., caught nine passes for 148 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 33-7 loss to Pittsburgh.
Holmes set a new program record for most receiving yards in a game by a freshman and matched the seventh-highest single-game receiving yardage total in UAlbany history. He totaled more receiving yards in a single game than any Great Dane since 2001.
A two-time New York state champion with Troy High School, Holmes also caught UAlbany's only touchdown, a 9-yard pass fromVincent Testaverde that Holmes corralled through a defender.
The Great Danes next play Saturday, when they open Colonial Athletic Association at Rhode Island.
