America East Release Women's Basketball Conference Schedule
BOSTON – The America East has released the 2018-19 women’s basketball conference schedules Thursday morning, detailing each member institution’s 16-game league slate.
“Our staff is looking forward to our America East conference play this season,” said head coach Colleen Mullen. “With so much parity and strength in the league, every game should present a challenge for our group. Last season, six teams had 18 or more wins with three of the teams recording 20 wins or more. We are looking forward to another successful season for our conference. Our team will be well-prepared from a strong non-conference schedule and ready to compete in conference play.”
The Great Danes finished second during the regular season for the second straight year in 2017-18, matching the previous season’s 12-4 America East record. Despite falling to Hartford in the America East Tournament semifinals, UAlbany qualified for its seventh-consecutive postseason, drawing the University of Pennsylvania in the first round of the WNIT.
UAlbany’s conference season starts on Wednesday, January 2 with a home game against Binghamton, one of four teams, including UAlbany, to feature a new coaching staff this season. The Danes’ first road game will follow, at Vermont on Saturday, January 5.
The Great Danes get an early bye before visiting defending regular-season and tournament champion Maine on Saturday, January 12. Afterwards, UAlbany returns home for two games, on Wednesday, January 16 against UMass Lowell, and on Saturday, January 19 against UMBC. Two road games follow the home stand, at Stony Brook on Wednesday, January 23, and at Hartford on Saturday, January 26, the first of two rematches with the Hawks.
UAlbany will host New Hampshire on Wednesday, January 30 to conclude the first cycle through the conference, before starting rounds two at Binghamton on Saturday, February 2. The Danes’ second bye precedes their home game against Vermont on Saturday, February 9. A midweek game at UMass Lowell on Wednesday, February 13 precedes home games against Maine on Saturday, February 16 and against Stony Brook on Wednesday, February 20.
The conference road schedule will conclude with two final games, at UMBC on Saturday, February 23 and at New Hampshire on Wednesday, February 27. The final game of the season, on Saturday, March 2, will be at SEFCU Arena against Hartford.
For the second-consecutive season, the America East Tournament will feature a different format. Instead of playing the quarterfinals and semifinals at a neutral site, the entire tournament will now be played at the home sites of the higher seeds, mirroring the men’s format adopted last year. The quarterfinals are scheduled for March 6, the semifinals for March 10, and the finals for March 15.
