EUGENE, Ore. – Making his first appearance at NCAA Outdoor Championships, University at Albany junior Walter Briggs placed 19th in the men’s 400m hurdles Wednesday night at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.
Briggs finished with a time of 52.24, crossing the line sixth in the first of three semifinal heats. His time tied his fourth-best of the season, matching the mark from his 10th place finish at the Penn Relays at the end of April.
Briggs’ heat featured top overall seed Rai Benjamin from the University of Southern California, who won the heat and qualified third overall in 49.66. Also qualifying out of the first heat was Jacob Smith from Northern Iowa with a time of 50.85. North Carolina senior Kenny Selmon was the top overall qualifier in 49.27.
With Briggs completing his time at NCAA Outdoor Championships, the 2017-18 collegiate season for UAlbany has come to a close.
