Short Story: The UAlbany softball team fell to #2 UMass Lowell on Friday. The Great Danes will take the field again today at 4:00PM.
How It Happened:
Game seven of the America East championship tournament was a tight race between UAlbany and UMass Lowell. The game remained scoreless through the seventh inning and went into the eighth.
Maranda Jimenez pitched the first seven innings and part of the eighth for the Great Danes, striking out eight batters and throwing 162 pitches. Devin Durando entered the game in the eighth inning and faced seven batters.
UMass Lowell’s Courtney Cashman hit an RBI-double to center field in the eighth inning, which was followed by Sara Siteman’s two-run homer. The River Hawks scored two more runs in the top of the eighth.
UAlbany’s Chelsea Henige hit a double to center field in the bottom of the eighth and Courtney Courtade entered the game to pinch run. Sarah Petzold followed Henige’s double with a single to the short stop. Donna Conrad stepped up to plate and hit an RBI-single to center field, bringing Courtade around to score. Amelia Ely followed that up with an RBI-single to right center field, bringing Sarah Petzold around to score the second run for UAlbany. The final score of the game was 5-2 UMass Lowell.
Next: The Great Danes will take the field again at 4:00PM Friday to take on the winner of game eight.
