After an exchange of goals to start the game, with Alex Burgmaster scoring after getting a pass from a double teamed Ron John, UMass Lowell scored the first three goals, including two from Jon Phillips. Jakob Patterson led the charge to get two back, lasering a shot off a dodge straight away, then passing off to Tehoka Nanticoke for a shot and score on a perfect shot to the corner. UML got a goal back, then Justin Reh found Patterson wide open on the doorstep for the goal towards the closing of the first quarter. UAlbany trailed UMass Lowell 5-4 after one. Phillips scored his fourth goal of the game in the opening minutes of the second quarter for UML. Nanticoke got the goal back with a dazzling move, faking a shot to throw off a defender, then scoring without a defender in front of him. After UML scored, for eight minutes the teams went back and forth, with neither team connecting. UML took a 7-5 lead into the break. UAlbany’s speed paid off in the opening minutes of the third quarter with a pair of goals shortly after clearing the ball. Sean Eccles buried a shot under the crossbar in the first 22 seconds, then Kyle McClancy scored in transition after clearing himself. As the teams stayed tied through most of the quarter, UML took back the lead with a Harrison Morrill goal. UAlbany struck back with two goals in less than 45 seconds: a hard bouncing shot by Nanticoke found its mark, then Patterson sniped a low shot into the net. Another goal by Phillips was countered by Justin Reh finding Eccles for a shot and score in the final two seconds, pushing UAlbany ahead 10-9 after three quarters. UML tied up the game on a man-up situation, making it 10-10 with 12:56 to play. UAlbany started to draw flags and took advantage of being a player-up three consecutive times: a wind up and score by McClancy, a long heave and score from Eccles, with both goals being assisted by Nanticoke, and Patterson scoring on a right to left shot. JD Colarusso and Co. held off UML the rest of the way to take the victory, with Eccles adding a goal while running and Patterson notching a transition goal. UAlbany won 15-10. UAlbany now gets set to battle 3-seed Vermont for the America East title game on Saturday, May 5th at noon on ESPNU.
