Comments From Coach Chris Cannata
"I like the way we responded today after a bad loss in the second game yesterday. Maranda pitched a great game against a really good hitting team. We need to keep fine tuning things in practice and continue to get to where we need to be for the conference tournament."
How It Happened
Freshman pitcher Maranda Jimenez led the UAlbany Great Danes to a 4-0 victory over UMBC. Jimenez threw a complete shut out, allowing only four hits and one walk, striking out two batters. Jimenez pitched all seven innings.
UAlbany got off to a great start with two runs scored in the first inning. McKenzie Bump hit a double to left center field, which was immediately followed by Kelly Spears home run that brought both of them home.
The second and third innings remained quiet for both teams as the score remained 2-0 through the bottom of the third.
In the fourth inning, Kelly Barkevich singled up the middle, but was caught out at second on the next play when Katie Falotico reached on a fielder’s choice. With Falotico on first, Donna Conrad hit an RBI-double to left center field that brought Falotico around to score.
The Great Danes scored one final time in the sixth inning. Kelly Barkevich hit a home run down the right field line, giving the Great Danes the four-run lead that would carry them through to a 4-0 victory over UMBC.
