Short Story: UAlbany took an early lead but ultimately fell 6-1 at St. John’s in the first of two mid-week games.

Coach Mueller: "We had 10 hits and had opportunities to get back in the game but St Johns pitched out of trouble when they had too."

How it happened

  • UAlbany struck first, scoring one run in the top of the first.  Travis Collins hit a leadoff single through the right side, and advanced to second when Marc Wangenstein drew a walk.  Collins scored in the next at bat when Connor Powers hit a single through the right side.
  • St. John’s tied the game at one in the bottom of the first
  • St. John’s scored twice in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 lead
  • St. John’s scored one run in the fourth
  • UAlbany loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the sixth but came away with no runs
  • St. John’s added two runs in the sixth to bring the final score to 6-1
  • UAlbany loaded the bases again in the top of the ninth with one out, but St. John’s’ relief pitcher Aaron Herr recorded two strikeouts to end the game

Next: UAlbany will host Manhattan on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. ahead of a weekend series against Stony Brook at Varsity Field.
