Short Story: UAlbany won the second game of Stony Brook’s home opener, but fell to Stony Brook in the first game.
RECAP The first game of the Stony Brook home opener started out slow for both teams, as the score remained 0-0 until the fifth inning. Stony Brook was able to put a run on the board in the fifth inning. The Seawolves scored one more run in the sixth inning. The first game ended in a 2-0 victory for Stony Brook.
In the second game, Kelly Spear hit a single through the right side and then advanced to second. Spear advanced to third on a fielder’s choice and came around to score a run on the next play when Sarah Petzold singled to third base. The Seawolves retaliated in the bottom of the first inning when Melissa Rahrich hit a home run. The score remained 1-1 until the fifth inning when the Seawolves scored two more runs. Down by two, the Great Danes rallied in the 6th inning to score two more runs and tie the game. The game went into extra innings as the score remained 3-3 through the bottom of the 7th inning. The Great Danes scored two more runs in the eighth inning. The fourth run was Amelia Ely’s RBI single that brought Sarah Petzold around to score. Katie Falotico scored the fifth and final run for the Great Danes on a passed ball. UAlbany won the game 5-3.
COMMENTS FROM COACHING STAFF “It was two tough games today to open up conference. We didn't hit that well today but got some key hits in that second game to come back and win it. We need to make some adjustments tomorrow and continue working on the things that we need to in order to keep getting better,” said head coach Chris Cannata.
