Short Story: UAlbany went 5-0 in the Blue and White Classic in Hampton, Virginia, defeating Omaha in the final game of the tournament.
• Sarah Petzold hit an RBI double to left center at the top of the second and advanced to third on the throw. Kelly Spear scored. • McKenzie Bump’s RBI triple to right center at the top of third allowed Shaye Swiatek to score. • Katie Falotico hit an RBI double to right field at the top of the fouth. Sarah Petzold scored.
Omaha scored the first run of the game at the bottom of the first inning. At the top of the second inning, UAlbany responded with two back-to-back runs, initiated by Sarah Petzold’s RBI double to left center field.
At the top of the third inning, McKenzie Bump hit an RBI triple to right center field, allowing Shaye Swiatek to score the third run of the game for UAlbany. Omaha responded at the bottom of the third inning scoring three runs, giving it a one-run advantage.
Sarah Petzold’s RBI single tied the game at the top of the fourth inning, which was quickly followed by Katie Falotico’s RBI double, giving the Great Danes the lead that they would carry to the end of the game. The final score was 5-4.
The Great Danes will take the field again on March 13th in Baltimore, Maryland where they will face Coppin State in a double-header starting at 1:00pm.
