UAlbany Sports Information   03-08-2018

ALBANY, N.Y. – A battle of the nation's best is set for just outside the nation's capital as the top-ranked UAlbany men’s lacrosse team takes on second-ranked and defending NCAA champion Maryland in College Park on Saturday, March 10th at 12 p.m.

The game will be aired live on the Big Ten Network, with Pete Medhurst and Mark Dixon on the call.  For those not going to the game at Maryland Stadium, UAlbany Athletics will have its official watch party at City Line on Saturday at noon.

UAlbany holds at #1 in each the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Maverik Media Poll for the second consecutive week, while Maryland is at #2 in each poll.  UAlbany and Maryland received every first place vote in the two polls.

Both teams enter Saturday undefeated: UAlbany, the reigning America East champion, knocked off UMass 19-8 on Tuesday to improve to 4-0, while defending Big Ten champion Maryland defeated Notre Dame 12-10 last Saturday for a 5-0 record.

This game is a rematch of last year's NCAA Quarterfinal round, where Maryland won 18-9 in Delaware.  Maryland won both regular season matchups in 2017, including 12-11 in Albany in April, and leads the all-time series 3-0, with the first meeting being in 2016.

UALBANY #1 IN COACHES POLL AND IN MEDIA POLL: For the second straight week, UAlbany stands at #1 in the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Maverik Media Poll.  It is the first time UAlbany, or any SUNY men's team, earned a #1 ranking in the Division I ranks.

The Great Danes have been ranked in the top-16 of both polls each week since May 2, 2014.  In the preseason, UAlbany was #3 in the coaches poll and #3 in the media poll.

FIELDS, IERLAN ON 2018 TEWAARATON WATCH LIST: Connor Fields and TD Ierlan were each named to the 2018 Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List, released on March 1st.

The Tewaaraton Trophy is given to the top player in college lacrosse.  On the men’s side, UAlbany’s Miles and Lyle Thompson shared the 2014 Tewaaraton Trophy, with Lyle winning it outright in 2015.

47 WINS FOR THE UALBANY SENIOR CLASS: The current members of the UAlbany senior class have won 47 games in their time with a record of 47-10.  That stands second in Division I, behind Maryland's 52 and just ahead of Denver's 45.
