The UAlbany Softball team came back after a loss to Sacred Heart to defeat Youngstown state 8-0 at the Winthrop Invitational.
The first game of the day was against Sacred Heart at 11:00 AM. The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when Sacred Heart scored one run. It wasn’t until the seventh inning that Sacred Heart scored three more runs, ending the game with a four-run lead over UAlbany.
The Great Danes brought the energy to game two, where they defeated Youngstown State 8-0 in five innings. In the second inning, UAlbany scored four runs. The first run was scored by Sarah Petzold when Shaye Swiatek hit a single to left field that allowed her to advance to third base on an error by the infielder. Aliyah Wade then hit a two-run RBI that allowed McKenzie Bump and Shaye Swiatek to score. Donna Conrad scored the last RBI of the second inning, which sent Aliyah Wade to home plate.
The Great Danes scored three runs in the third inning. The final run was scored in the fourth inning, which gave UAlbany the eight-run lead it needed to end the game in the fifth inning via run-ahead rule.
The Great Danes will take the field for the final time in South Carolina on Sunday, where they will face Eastern Kentucky at 10:00 am.
