Coach Gorman: “We’re very happy to get a win in our home finale and on senior night. I thought we scored two good goals, took them well, and were opportunistic. I thought we had a couple of moments in the second half where we almost let them back into it but then I was really pleased with the response and how we were able to gain control of the game in the final 20 or 30 minutes. So we’re happy with the result and looking forward to getting back on the road.”

The University at Albany men’s soccer team closed out its 2017 regular season home schedule with a 2-0 shutout victory over non-conference opponent Hartwick Tuesday night. The victory brings the Great Danes’ home record this season to 7-1.
The five seniors on the roster, Kaz Boschen, Moosah Khanat, Jeff Medina, Afonso Pinheiro, and Lucas Vallilo, were honored with a short ceremony preceding the game. Each of the five seniors were in the starting lineup as well.
Offense came at a premium all evening, with the two teams combining for five shots and one corner kick in the first half. Nico Solabarrieta broke the 0-0 tie in the 26th minute after opportunistically collecting a ricochet on a through ball attempt at the top of the Hartwick box from Carlos Clark to Pinheiro. Solabarrieta settled the loose ball and fired a shot past the Hartwick keeper’s right side to put UAlbany up 1-0.
In the second half, UAlbany outshot Hartwick 5-3. Solabarrieta set up freshman Tommy Quirk’s first career goal in the 53rd minute shortly after halftime to put UAlbany up 2-0, which would prove to be the final score.
At home this season, UAlbany went 7-1 with five shutouts, outscoring its opponents 18-4.
Next: UAlbany will close the 2017 regular season with two final conference games on the road. First, the Danes will visit Stony Brook on Saturday, October 28, and will finish at Binghamton on Wednesday, November 1.
