ALBANY, N.Y. – Despite outshooting Dartmouth 11-7 in the game, including 10-3 in the second half, the UAlbany women’s soccer team fell to the Big Green 3-0 on Thursday night at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.

UAlbany (2-4) regrouped at half, down by one to Dartmouth (3-2) and put four more shots on goal in the latter period, but could not make up the early deficit.

“We are disappointed, the first half we did not take care of the ball well,” said UAlbany head coach Nick Bochette. “Credit to Dartmouth, they were good.  I thought our response in the second half was good, we were more lively."

Remy Borinsky scored in the second minute to put Dartmouth on the board, following by Alyssa Neuberger netting two goals in the second half.

Mariah Williams led UAlbany in shots with five, while Katie Gowing had three in the second half.  Andrea Leitner got the loss in goal with a save.

Mariel Gordon notched the victory in goal for Dartmouth with four saves.

Dartmouth scored on its opening shot in the second minute with a pass from Ribi going to a running Borinsky.  Borinsky kicked a ground ball shot towards the right post and scored, making it 1-0 Dartmouth.

Caroline Kopp tried to equalize in the fifth minute with a blast off a re-directed throw-in.  Gordon made the catch near the left post for the save.

Each side threatened in the other’s offensive third, but neither was able to get off shots to the cage.  In the 27th minute, Dartmouth put a free kick into the box, seeing Ribi kick off a second bounce, missing the woodwork right.

The teams kept battling for possession in the midfield, with neither gaining the upper hand.  In the closing minutes of the first, Lillian Raffetto sent a free kick from 40 yards out towards the right corner of the cage, with a jumping Leitner punched the ball away.  Dartmouth took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.

In the opening minute of the second half, a ball got past the UAlbany back line from outside the box.  Neuberger, from the right side, sent the ball across the box inside the left post to make it 2-0 Dartmouth.

UAlbany pressured the Big Green in the following minutes.  Off a Kopp corner kick, Williams kicked the ball into a defender.  Gina Bracamonte got the second attempt, heading it towards the left post but was stopped by Gordon.

On a free kick in the 73rd minute, Williams lined a shot to the right, with Gordon punching the ball away.  The resulting corner by Kopp was kicked across to the left post and stopped by a Dartmouth defender next to the woodwork.

Dartmouth sealed the game in the 80th minute as Kawakami pulled off Leitner in the middle of the box, passed off to Neuberger for the shot and score.  Dartmouth took a 3-0 advantage, the eventual final score.

UAlbany wraps up its homestand on Sunday, September 10th against Colgate at 3 p.m. at Casey Stadium.
