ALBANY, N.Y. – The UAlbany women’s soccer team took down crosstown rival Siena 2-1 in its 2017 home opener on a rainy Sunday night at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.

Following a scoreless 62 minutes, Gina Bracamonte netted a long range goal for UAlbany (2-3).  Siena (2-2) minutes later, then Miranda Badovinac scored her first collegiate goal in the 72nd minute to lead UAlbany to the win.

“We have been developing a lot on the road, we are still growing day by day,” said UAlbany head coach Nick Bochette. “Really good win tonight, I thought we controlled the tempo against a Siena team that is good, we had to work for it.”

With the victory, UAlbany has won its last two, both against New York-based foes.

Each Bracamonte and Badovinac scored their first goals of the year, with Morgan Loder adding an assist to the second goal.  Andrea Leitner earned her second victory in goal with one save in 90 minutes.

For Siena, Lomino notched her first goal of the season, while Madison Vasquez had three shots in the game.  Taylor Dorado got the loss in the cage with four saves and two goals allowed.

Before the game started, UAlbany honored its senior class of the 2016 America East Tournament team, along with former head coach Caitlin Cucchiella.

Vivian Vega got a couple of looks on the cage in the opening minutes, putting one on goal on a turnaround shot towards the left post, with Siena making the save.

Play went back and forth in the following minutes, with neither getting a dangerous opportunity.  Madison Vasquez got the ball deep in UAlbany territory for a header on a cross, missing high.

In minute 34, Mariah Williams sent a shot long range towards to left post, missing the woodwork just wide. Siena countered with a couple of passes towards the center with Vasquez who shot high, with Leitner jumping and grabbing the ball.

Siena had a couple of late shots both blocked in the closing minutes of the first half.  The score was 0-0 at the break.

After 16 minutes of no shots on goal in the opening of the second half, Caroline Kopp placed a corner kick to the head of Hailey Summers towards the right post, just missing wide right.

A minute later, UAlbany pressured on offense.  Bracamonte sent in a ball towards the middle that deflected off a Siena defender and inside the left post to put the Great Danes up 1-0.

Siena got the goal back after Michele Tremblay sent a corner into the box.  After two blocked attempts in the scrum, Lomino kicked a third attempt inside the left post to equalize at 1-1 after 66 minutes.

Twice in the next five minutes, Kopp placed corner kick crosses well into the box.  Summers headed another attempt high, while one to Williams missed wide.

The 72nd minute saw a ball sent to Loder in the middle of the box after Siena tried to clear it out.  Loder passed off to Badovinac for the one-touch long range fire inside the left post for the goal, sending UAlbany up 2-1.

Siena had a near breakaway in the 80th minute as Jayanna Monds sent a ball over the crossbar on a shot.  UAlbany did not allowed another shot the rest of the way and took the 2-1 victory.

UAlbany will stay home for its next game, taking on Dartmouth on Thursday, September 7th at 7 p.m. at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.
