Baseball Rained Out On Senior Day

UAlbany Sports Information   05-07-2017

ALBANY, N.Y. – One day after sweeping a doubleheader against Stony Brook, the University at Albany baseball team (19-22, 6-11 AE) once more took the field to host the series finale against the Seawolves (21-23, 8-9 AE).  The game was called after two innings due to rain.

After a short pregame ceremony to honor the eight seniors on the roster, the final America East home game of the season began.  The Great Danes broke open the game early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Patrick Lagravinese led off with a walk.  Evan Harasta next hit a single up the middle, allowing Lagravinese to advance to third.  Connor Powers reached safely on a fielder's choice that scored Lagravinese and saw Harasta forced out at second.  Kevin Donati then hit a single through the left side, and both Powers and Donati advanced in the next at-bat on a passed ball.  After Marc Wangenstein lined out to second, Matt Hinchy earned a walk to load the bases.  Travis Collins came up to bat and also earned a walk, forcing in a run.  The next batter, Kyle Sacks, hit a single through the right side, scoring Donati and Hinchy to give UAlbany a 4-0 lead after one.

As the Danes took the field for the top of the second inning, the skies opened and the rain started coming down, initiating a delay in the game as the tarp was brought on to cover the infield.  The delay lasted one hour and 57 minutes before the teams took the field to restart the game.

After the bottom of the second inning, with the rain still coming down, the umpires called the game with the Danes leading 4-0.  The result will not count towards either team's record.

The Great Danes will play on the road at Hartford next weekend and at Maine the weekend after to close out the 2017 regular season.  There remains one more home game, Tuesday, May 16 against Sacred Heart.
