BURLINGTON, Vt. – The UAlbany men’s lacrosse team earned its fourth straight win with a strong 17-6 showing at Vermont to take the America East opener in Burlington.

In its last four victories, UAlbany (4-1, 1-0 AE) has won by at least nine goals, including scoring at least 17 goals and holding its opponent to eight or fewer.  UAlbany led 11-3 at the half against Vermont (4-4, 0-1 AE), never allowing more than two goals in a quarter.

UAlbany outshot Vermont 52-32 in the game and won 16 out of 27 faceoffs.  UAlbany also scored the first two goals in every quarter, including the first four in three of them.

With the win, UAlbany has now won 23 consecutive America East regular season games.  It is the longest active league winning streak in Division I.  UAlbany has won every America East opener since 2012.

Connor Fields led all players with seven points off four goals and three assists while Justin Reh notched four goals and one assist.  Adam Osika, Bennett Drake and Jakob Patterson all had two goals each while TD Ierlan tallied up 10 ground balls off 16-for-25 on faceoffs.  JD Colarusso earned the win in the cage, saving 16 shots on 21 attempts on goal in the opening 52:03.

For Vermont, Dawes Mitchling and Charlie Cobb each had two goals.  The loss went to Nick Washuta, who had five saves and nine goals allowed in the first 17:41.

Kyle McClancy got UAlbany off to a blazing start with a line drive inside the right post 23 seconds in, then less than a minute later, Fields found Justin Reh for the catch and shoot goal, then another goal came from Reh on a 10-meter shot to the right post.  UAlbany’s opening run continued as Fields and Drake scored goals in the following minutes for a 5-0 lead 5:19 in.  The sides exchanged goals the rest of the quarter as UAlbany had a 7-2 advantage after one.

UAlbany opened the second quarter as Patterson and Fields scored goals 22 seconds apart shortly into the period.  Patterson added another in transition as Troy Reh led the clear and passed off to the freshman near the cage, then Justin Reh added his fourth to give UAlbany a nine-goal lead.  Vermont scored in the closing minutes of the half, making it 11-3 UAlbany at the break.

Into the second half, UAlbany quickly got a goal off the faceoff win on an Osika shovel shot, then after another faceoff win, a couple of passes went to Drake for the catch and shoot goal.  Vermont got one back as Mitchling spun off a defender and scored in lower left.  The sides went back and forth as Colarusso made a top shelf save, then later saved another long range shot.  Vermont got one more goal the rest of the quarter as Colarusso had more saves, leading to UAlbany being up 13-5 after three.

UAlbany got another quick start into the fourth quarter, getting its lead back to 11 fast with goals from Fields, Eli Lasda and Fields again.  After some defensive play on the ride to keep control, Jake Cullen spun into his defender to get room for the close range goal.  Vermont got the goal back later, but UAlbany held strong on defense the rest of the way for the 17-6 win.

UAlbany has a quick turnaround, heading to Buffalo to take on Canisius on Tuesday, March 21st at 4 p.m.
