Bump, Snow Home Runs Not Enough on First Day at North Florida Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, FL-- On day one, the Great Danes went (0-2) at the North Florida Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Great Danes led the Mount in the first inning scoring 4 runs. McKenzie Bump and Aliyah Wade both started off the inning with walks occupying first and second. Donna Conrad then singled to the right side, scoring Bump. Next up, Chelsea Henige was walked by the Mount’s pitcher. With Bases loaded, Wade then sprinted home on a passed ball. An RBI by Mackenzie Cleary scored Conrad and Sarah Petzold’s scored Henige.

The Mount battled back adding a run to the board, making the score in the 1st inning (4-1).

In the 2nd inning, Elizabeth Snow helped out the Great Danes with a home run circling the bases. The Great Danes also got on the board in the 3rd inning with a Sarah Petzold walk who scored from Shaye Swiatek’s RBI.

In the top of the 3rd inning the Great Danes led the Mount (6-1). However, the Mount took control of the game in the bottom half of the inning scoring 8 runs, with two Great Dane errors as well as a little pitching trouble. Bailey Turner stepped into the circle in the middle of the inning to relieve Devin Durando.

The Mount added five more runs between the 4th and 5th inning, not allowing the Great Danes to catch up with a final score of (6-14).

The Ospreys started off the game with an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning. Using the momentum, North Florida added six more runs to the board by the 3rd inning, including a home run by Ashley Niesman.

UAlbany looked to battle back in the third inning. Addy Simpson reached first base by a fielder’s choice, then Bump stepped up to the plate and hit a home run, scoring Simpson. Aliyah Wade and Liz Snow both singled, and Donna Conrad hit Wade in with an RBI making the score in the bottom of the 3rd  3-8.

In the 4th inning, Durando took over pitching duties from Celeste Verdolivo. North Florida scored an additional run by Freshman, Kayla McGrory who was sent in by Dominica Cocuzza’s single. With their final at bat in the top of the 5th inning, the Ospreys scored seven more runs making the score 3-15

UAlbany was unable to contribute more to the score in the bottom of the fifth with only one hit by Wade. Defensively, the North Florida pitcher, Morgan Blourne, had 8 Great Dane strike outs.


The Great Danes return tomorrow at 10 AM v. La Salle and 12:15 PM v. Western Carolina at the North Florida Invitational.
