Men's Soccer Looks for Second Consecutive Win Against UMass Lowell on Saturday Night

ALBANY, N.Y.- With the America East standings wide open, University at Albany men's soccer (6-6-1, 1-2-0 AE) hosts UMass Lowell (7-5-0, 2-1-0) for a league match-up at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium on Saturday at 8:00pm. Trevor Gorman's squad takes the field following a 3:30pm UAlbany football game.

The Purple & Gold rebounded from a three-game losing streak on Wednesday night with its first conference win, 2-1 against Hartford. The Hawks are now the only winless team in the league, as New Hampshire, UMass Lowell, Binghamton and Vermont sit in a four-way tie for first place at 2-1. Three-time defending champion UMBC is 1-1-1, while UAlbany and Stony Brook are 1-2.

Men's soccer secured the first Great Dane win at the newly named Tom & Mary Casey Stadium on Wednesday. Jake Barros netted his second goal of the season from Martin Gorrie to make the score 1-0 UAlbany in the 29th minute. Leo Melgar joined him in the box score just before the end of the first half shortly after. Melgar tallied his fifth goal of the season from Afonso Pinheiro.

The Danes lead the league in corner kicks through three conference games, averaging 7.33 per game. In the overall stats, Pinheiro ranks second in total points with 17 and first in goals with eight. He has three game-winning goal to his credit this season, and is one tally away from ranking tied for second all-time in single season goals.
