Scannapieco Punches Ticket For NCAA Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior pole vaulter Alfonso Scannapieco cleared 17' 2.75” Thursday evening at the 2013 NCAA Division I Track and Field East Preliminary Round in Greensboro, N.C., securing a spot in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 5-8.
Scannapieco tied for eighth-place among the field of 48, and is one of 12 who will advance to compete for the national title.
Also competing at the NCAA East Regional Thursday, Taariq Jones recorded a time of 47.40 in the 400m, placing 40th.
On the women's side, junior Brittney Lane placed 26th with a time of 35:23.77 in the women's 10,000m, while senior Sherez Mohamed came in 28th in the 800m run with her 2:07.28 mark.
In addition, Tynelle Taylor-Chase ran a 59.61 mark in the 400m hurdles, placing 33rd, while junior Kathryn Fanning came in 46th, running a 4:38.69 in the 1,500m. Senior Alli Rogers, one of UAlbany's eight who qualified for the regional meet, ran a 54.70 in the 400m run, placing 37th.
Still left to compete for the Great Danes, sophomore Alexander Bowen will strive to join Scannapieco in Eugene when he contends in the high jump Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Aggie Stadium.
