Track And Field Sends Eight To NCAA East Regional

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany track and field program will have eight athletes competing in the 2013 NCAA Division I Track and Field East Preliminary Round on Thursday, May 23-Saturday, May 25. The three days of competition take place at North Carolina A&T State University's Irwin Belk Track inside of Aggie Stadium and will feature the top athletes in the world, east of the Mississippi.
On the women's side, Tynelle Taylor-Chase (400H), Kathryn Fanning (1500m), Brittney Lane (10K), Sherez Mohamed (800m), and Alli Rogers (400m) will represent the Great Danes, while Alexander Bowen (high jump), Taariq Jones (400m), and Alfonso Scannapieco (pole vault) will compete for the men.
Taylor-Chase, a junior from Whitby, Ontario, will contend in the 400m hurdles after posting a qualifying and title-winning time of 59.32 at the America East Conference Championship.
Fanning , a junior from Fayetteville, N.Y., qualified for the 1500m run with her program-shattering time of 4:22.83 at the UConn Invitational.
Lane, a junior from Greenwich, N.Y., also shattered a UAlbany record with a blitzing time of 34:26.47 in the 10,000m run, winning the Olympic Development Elite section at the Mt. SAC Relays to rank 28th in the Region.
Mohamed, a senior from Albany, N.Y., will compete in the 800m after running a 2:07.98 mark at the ECAC Championship, while Rogers, a senior from Amherst, N.Y., qualified for the 400m with her title-winning time of 53.92 at the America East Championship.
On the track for the men, Jones, a freshman from Kingston, N.Y., will also compete in the 400m after posting a winning time of 47.35 at the America East Championship.
In the field, sophomore Alexander Bowen and junior Alfonso Scannapieco both rank eighth in the Region for the high jump and pole vault, respectively. Bowen, a native of Beacon, N.Y., will look to top his program and conference-record mark of 7' 3.25”. Scannapieco, a native of Mohegan Lake, N.Y., will likely be highly competitive in the pole vault after matching UAlbany's program record with a 17' 6.5” clearance at the IC4A Championship.
Twelve competitors from each individual event advance from each preliminary championships competition site to the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 5-8, 2013.
