UAlbany Women's Basketball Cruises to a 68-35 Win Over Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Ebone Henry scored a game-high 23 points en route to being named the America East Player of the Game to lead the Great Danes to a 68-35 win over Stony Brook in conference action on Wednesday evening at Pritchard Gymnasium. UAlbany, which remains the lone undefeated team in the America East, moves to 17-3 overall and 8-0 in league play. Stony Brook drops to 11-10 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

Stony Brook started off the scoring with a 3-pointer from Dani Klupinger, but a free throw from Ebone Henry and a lay-up by Keyana Williams at 18:15 tied the game at 3-3. After the Seawolves took a 5-3 lead with a bucket, Lindsey Lowrie drained her first 3-pointer of the game just before the first media timeout to put the Great Danes up, 6-5, with 15:42 on the clock. Another 3-pointer by Lowrie extended the UAlbany lead to 11-5 at 11:53.

The Great Danes then embarked on an 11-5 run over the next seven minutes to extend their lead to 22-9 on a free throw by Tammy Phillip with 5:03 to play. Latasia Ward made one-of-two free throws to cut the deficit to 22-10, but Henry drained a 3-pointer from the top of the arc with 4:31 on the clock to push the UAlbany lead to 25-10. Megan Craig then converted an old-fashioned three-point play, and Henry laid the ball in at 3:18 to give the Great Danes a 20-point lead.

Stony Brook finally ended the UAlbany rally on a layup by Brittany Snow at 2:30, and the Seawolves grabbed a defensive rebound and converted at the opposite end of the court with a bucket by Jessica Previlon, to pull within 32-14. However, the Great Danes responded with baskets by Phillip and Henry to extend their advantage. Henry came away with a steal under the Stony Brook basket to end the half with UAlbany holding a 36-15 lead.

Williams scored UAlbany's first six points of the second half to push the Great Dane lead to 42-17 at the first media timeout of the half, with 15:34 on the clock. Stony Brook continued to battle, but eight straight points from Henry on two free throws and back-to-back 3-pointers, extended the UAlbany lead to 54-25 with 10:37 left to play.

From there, the Great Danes continued to extend their lead, getting up by 31, 60-29, with 4:24 left to play on a layup by Phillip.  As UAlbany continued to roll, Phillip struck again in the closing minutes, draining a 3-pointer from the far left corner with 1:25 on the clock. Forster laid the ball in with 34 ticks to go to set the final score.

Along with Henry, Shereesha Richards added 10 points and five steals, while Lowrie finished with nine points on three 3-pointers. Sarah Royals handed out eight assists for the Great Danes, while Craig pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
