ALBANY, N.Y. – In the last home match of the regular season, the University at Albany field hockey team overcame the visiting Maine Black Bears, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at Alumni Turf Field. The victory improved the Great Danes' record to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in the America East and secured a spot in the conference tournament, while Maine dropped to 9-8 on the season and 2-2 in league play.

As a part of Senior Day, Jessica Longstreth, Chantae Miller, Nina Walters, Brianna Schwoyer, Taylor Luke and Kristi Troch were honored individually in a pregame ceremony for their contributions made to the UAlbany field hockey program.

With the festivities out of the way, the Great Danes got to work.

Junior Corrinne McConville's goal 13 minutes into the first half marked the lone goal of the contest, coming directly from a corner. Senior Jessica Longstreth sent the ball in after the penalty, freshman Laura Page stopped it and McConville lined her 11th goal of the season past Maine goalkeeper Alicia Frisch.

Aggressively attacking in the opening stanza, UAlbany earned a 10-3 upper hand in shots, finishing the contest with a 15-6 shot advantage and 7-4 shot on goal edge. The Great Dane offense earned a number of scoring opportunities, with a 7-3 corners advantage.

Senior Daphne Voormolen and Kelly Bonner led the team with four shots apiece, while Voormolen and sophomore Echo Bretz each fired two on goal.

UAlbany goalkeeper Kristi Troch played all 70 minutes in the cage, making three saves and earning her fourth shutout of the year. For Maine, Frisch finished with five saves, also playing the entire match.

The Great Danes are back in action Sunday when they step out of conference and travel to take on Yale at 3:00 p.m. UAlbany closes the regular season next Saturday at Vermont.
