Ajala started her season at the Shamrock Invitational and placed fifth in the Heptathalon. She continued her season placing fifth in high jumps finishing with 1.55m at the Spring Classic.

Ajala sat out the beginning of the season, and saw her first action during UAlbany’s Spring Classic. She placed fourth in the 400m hurdles in 1:09.17. She placed 42nd in the same event at the Penn Relays in 1:03.93. She also placed second as a member of the 4x400m relay that competed in the ECAC division. Ajala split 56.9 en route to a team finish of 3:42.89. At the America EAst Outdoor Championships, Ajala placed fifth in the 400m hurdles in 1:02.34, after running 1:01.71 in the preliminary round. She also placed second as a member of the 4x400m relay, earning a split of 57.2 en route to a 3:44.46 team finish. She won the 400m hurdles at UAlbany’s Purple & Gold Last Chance Meet in 1:00.76. Ajala’s season ended at ECAC Outdoor Championships, where she placed 11th in the 400m hurdles in a season-best 1:00.48.

Ajala opened the season at Penn State’s Nittany Lion Challenge, where she placed fifth in the 400m in 57.57, and second as a member of the 4x400m relay team, earning a split of 56.4. She placed third in the 500m at Cornell’s Upstate Challenge in 1:16.23, which converted to 1:15.27, and split 57.0 on the 4x400m relay that finished in 3:48.53, which converted to 3:45.54. After running the 400m and 4x400m relay at the Armory Track Invitational, Ajala placed 14th in the 400m at Boston University’s Valentine Invitational in 56.37. At the America East Indoor Championships, Ajala set a non-converted season-best mark in the 500m, where she placed fourth overall in 1:15.28. She also placed first as a member of the 4x400m relay, splitting 56.8 en route to a team finish of 3:47.43. In her final meet of the season, ECAC Indoor Championships, Ajala placed ninth in the 400m in 55.56, after running a season-best 55.42 in the preliminary round. Ajala also split 56.82 en route to a 3:44.41 team finish in the preliminary round of the 4x400m relay, helping the team qualify for finals in sixth place. In the finals, Ajala split 55.85 en route to a school-record 3:41.11 time, good for second place overall.

Ajala opened the season at the Spring Break Classic in Puerto Rico, where she placed fifth in the 400m hurdles in 1:03.28, and first as a member of the 4x400m relay team that finished in 3:49.87. She placed 31st at the Texas Relays in the 400m hurdles in 1:01.81, and fourth at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational in 1:02.85 in the same weekend. She won two events at the dual meet against Colgate, the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay. At UAlbany’s Spring Classic, Ajala placed second in the 400m hurdles in 1:03.57 and placed first as a member of the 4x400m relay that finished in 3:51.63. After running on the 4x400m relay at the Penn Relays, Ajala placed third in the 400m hurdles at the America East Outdoor Championships in 1:01.82, after running 1:00.97 in the preliminary round. She also placed third as a member of the 4x400m relay team that finished in 3:53.10. Ajala won the 400m hurdles at UAlbany’s Purple & Gold Last Chance Meet, crossing the line in 1:01.55. Ajala opened the season at Penn State’s Indoor Relays, where she placed 11th in the 500m in a season-best 1:18.69. She ran her first 400m of the season at UAlbany’s Great Dane Classic, placing 19th in 58.29. She set a season-best in the 200m of 25.89 at the Columbia Invitational, where she placed 13th. After placing 27th in the 400m at the Armory Collegiate Invitational with a time of 57.50, Ajala ran on the 4x400m relay team that finished with a time of 3:46.89 at the Millrose Games. At the America East Indoor Championships, Ajala placed second in the 400m in 56.59, after setting a season-best of 56.42 in the preliminary round. She also placed second as a member of the 4x400m relay that crossed the line in 3:48.61. Ajala’s season ended at ECAC Indoor Championships, where she placed 23rd in the 400m in 56.79, and sixth as a member of the 4x400m relay team.

Ajala opened the season at the Spring Break Classic in Puerto Rico, where she placed 11th in the 400m hurdles in 1:17.58. She also ran a leg on the victorious 4x400m relay that finished in 3:51.57. In her next meet, Central Florida’s Invitational, Ajala improved on her previous 400m hurdles time by nearly 10 seconds, placing 13th in 1:08.01. She also ran on the fifth-place finishing 4x400m relay team that crossed the line in 3:43.93. She improved her time in the 400m hurdles again at the dual meet against Connecticut, placing third in 1:06.23. Ajala placed third in the 400m hurdles for the second consecutive meet at the UTech Classic, improving her time to 1:03.75. A third consecutive third-place finish in the 400m hurdles at Princeton’s Larry Ellis Invitational saw Ajala’s time drop even further to 1:01.46. At the America East Outdoor Championships, Ajala ran 1:02.64 in the preliminary round of the 400m hurdles, qualifying for finals in third place. She ultimately finished second overall after setting a season-best mark of 1:00.47 in the finals. Ajala’s season ended at ECAC Outdoor Championships, where she placed 21st in the 400m hurdles in 1:06.22, and 20th as a member of the 4x400m relay team.

After competing on two relays at UAlbany’s Great Dane Classic, Ajala placed 14th in the 500m at Boston University’s Terrier Classic, setting a season-best of 1:17.30. She placed 24th in the 400m at the Armory Collegiate Invitational, crossing the line in 57.04. She placed fourth in the 400m at the America East Indoor Championships in 57.72. She ended the season setting a season-best in the 400m at ECAC Indoor Championships, placing 27th in 56.65.

Ajala was a four-year letter-winner in track & field at Piscataway High School, where she served as team captain during her senior year and was a member of National Honor Society. In 2012, she won the Coach’s Award for winter track, and in 2011 was named Courier News All-Area and First Team All-Bergan County in the 200m.

Aderinsola “Derin” Ajala is the daughter of Akin and Abigail Ajala. She has one brother, Raymond, and one sister, Jackie.
