Albany, N.Y. - University at Albany's Corrine McConville, coming off her stellar sophomore season, earned a spot on the 2011 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-America Second Team. The first, second and third All-American teams were announced Monday afternoon by NFHCA Executive Director Jennifer Goodrich.
McConville served as an offensive leader for the Great Danes in the 2011 season as she was second in goals scored (12) and tied for fourth in assists (4). In the regular-season finale against New Hampshire, she tallied the game winner in the 62nd minute as UAlbany took a 3-2 victory. McConville had a pair of two-goal performances on the season against Yale and Stanford.
In 20 games played this season, McConville racked up 76 shots to lead the league with a 3.80 shots per game average. She made a season-best seven shots in games against Siena and Yale. The midfielder ranked among the conference's top-10 in points (28), points per game (1.40) and goals per game average (0.60).
Paw Prints: McConville becomes the third field hockey player at UAlbany to garner All-America recognition ... current UAlbany assistant coach and former player Michelle Simpson received the award twice, a second-team selection in 2007 and 2008... 40 UAlbany student-athletes have been honored as All-Americans at the Division I level.
