Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Gina Mason and Kristine Bill
were named to the America East Conference All-Academic Softball Team, as
announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. Mason, a unanimous
selection, earned her third all-academic honor, while Bill made her first
appearance on the squad.
Mason, an all-conference
first-team infielder, led the Great Danes to their fourth America East
championship title this season. The senior from Sacramento, Calif. was also
recently named to the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association All-Region Team.
A journalism major who will be attending Iona College next fall for graduate
school, Mason maintained a 3.38 cumulative grade point average while also
leading UAlbany in all major offensive categories. Mason batted .404 this
season, with 55 hits, 27 runs scored and 29 RBI. She led the team with 11
doubles and five home runs, while also posting a .640 slugging percentage and
going 4-for-4 on stolen base attempts.
Bill, who was a 2009 NFCA Scholar-Athlete, earned her
first all-academic honor from the America East after posting a 3.51 grade point
average while majoring in business administration. A native of Woodland, Calif.,
Bill started 41 of 45 games played this season, seeing most action in the
outfield. She recorded 18 hits, including three doubles, two home runs and one
triple, and scored ten runs while driving in 13 more.
