Austin, Texas - University at Albany's Wilfredo de Jesus Elias finished sixth in the men's hammer throw with a season-best performance on Thursday, April 7 at the 84th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The four-day meet is being held at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium.
de Jesus Elias, a senior from Arroyo, Puerto Rico, threw 199-feet, 8-inches on the first of six attempts and lowered his IC4A-qualifying distance. He previously posted a mark of 193-1 in winning Army's Dick Shea Open on March 26. Sam Houston State's Chris Cralle won the Texas Relays' competition with a mark 221-1.
Alie Beauvais sprinted a season-best 51.54 seconds in the preliminary round of the men's 400-meter intermediate hurdles, the sixth-best time in qualifying. He advanced to Saturday's championship final. Rebecca Kelly placed 22nd in the women's 400-hurdles with an ECAC-qualifying time of 1:02.02, while Kadine Johnson was 11th in the women's hammer throw (169-10).
UAlbany posted a top-10 finish in the men's 4x800-meter relay by hitting the tape in 7:33.07. Chris Burke anchored a group that included Paul Lagno, Sean Halpin and Nick Santos. Brianne Bellon, a freshman from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., competed for the first time since mid-March by running the fourth leg of the women's 4x800 relay. Jonelle White, Kathryn Fanning and Jessica Panos ran the opening three legs on a relay than placed 12th overall in 9:27.72.
