Albany, N.Y. - Midfielder Jack McVey scored two goals on three shots to lead NJIT to a 4-1 win over UAlbany in men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Varsity Field.

            The Highlanders took a 1-0 lead just 27 seconds into the game as Pete Walker crossed the ball from the left side of the net, meeting Nils Warfving, who headed the ball into the far corner. UAlbany tied the game in the eighth minute on an Anthony DeSalvo goal. Christoffer Nisser crossed a pass from the right, and DeSalvo collected the pass to make a shot from eight yards out, slipping the ball past NJIT goalkeeper John Ricketti.

            NJIT would add three more tallies in the first half to set the final score. McVey scored his first goal of the game at 17:31 on a free kick from outside the box. Midfielder Papas Ciss gave the Highlanders a 3-1 advantage on an unassisted goal in the 22nd minute on an open shot in front of the net from ten yards out. McVey completed the scoring in the contest with an unassisted tally just over 32 minutes into the half, as he gathered a rebound off of UAlbany goalkeeper Adrian Foncette and found the back of the net.

            The teams would play even for the second half, with neither squad finding the back of the net. NJIT held a slight 16-15 advantage in shots, while UAlbany took seven corner kicks and allowed the Highlanders just one. Foncette played all 90 minutes in the net, making four saves. Ricketti also went the distance, stopping four shots for NJIT (2-1).

            UAlbany (2-1) will return to action on Sept. 12, hosting Colgate at 1 p.m.
