UAlbany Men's Soccer Announces 10 Student-Athlete Commitments for 2010 Season

Albany, N.Y. - University at Albany head men's soccer coach Johan Aarnio announced on Wednesday, August 11 that the program has received commitments from 10 student-athletes for the 2010-11 academic year. The incoming class includes one forward, four midfielders, three defenders and two goalkeepers.
Scott Kessler, a transfer from Marist College, attended Syosset High School and is a native of Jericho, N.Y. Kessler made an immediate impact, earning a starting position as a true freshman for the Red Foxes in 2008. He logged in over 1,100 minutes in goal, registered all three wins and made 55 saves that season. Kessler was also named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week. On the scholastic level, the goalkeeper captained his team to the county finals. His club team, the Massapequa Revolution, reached the New York State finals.
Aamel Segal, a midfielder from Chestnut Hill, Mass., transferred to UAlbany from Colby College. He made 10 appearances for the Mules during the 2007 season. In addition, Segal was an all-conference player on the scholastic level at Brookline High School.
Midfielders Caleb Ciachetti and Nick Cannistraci hail from nearby Schenectady, N.Y. and attended Guilderland High School. Ciachetti was named a Suburban Council First Team All-Star, while Cannistraci made the third team. As juniors, Ciachetti and Cannistraci led the Flying Dutchmen to a school-record 22 wins and their first Class AA Section II title since 1997. Ciachetti was also an Albany Times Union First Team All-Area selection last fall.
Incoming freshmen Travis Lang, Tim Mingione and Dustin Stout also hope to make a quick impact. Lang, a defender from Getzville, N.Y. who played at Williamsville North High School, was a First Team All-Western New York pick after leading his squad to a 14-4-1 ledger. Mingione was an all-conference first-team goalkeeper for New Fairfield High School in New Fairfield, Conn., while Dustin Stout, who hails from Laurel, Md. out of Hammond High School, will look to bolster the midfield.
Coach Aarnio continues to attract standout international student-athletes, which includes Christoffer Nisser, Tjerk Veltman and Stephan Cunningham. Nisser is a native of Stockholm, Sweden and graduate of Letälvsskola High School, while Veltman is a forward from Amsterdam, Netherlands who attended the University of Amsterdam. Cunningham, a defender, comes from Newtownards County Down in Northern Ireland and went to Regent House School.
UAlbany opens its 2010 schedule with a visit to Fairfield of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.
