Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Greg Lutton was named to the America East Conference All-Academic Baseball Team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. Lutton, who posted a 3.38 grade point average with a major in business administration, was one of nine student-athletes chosen as the top athletic and academic performers from around the conference.

            Lutton, a native of New Haven, Vt., went 3-4 in 19 appearances in his first season with the Great Danes after transferring from Vermont following the discontinuation of the Catamount program. He was named to the America East Conference Second Team as a relief pitcher after posting a 7.32 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 39.1 innings of work. Lutton began the season in the starting rotation, making three starts on the mound before moving the bullpen as a reliever, and finished the season with a team-high three saves. He earned a win and a save in the America East Conference Tournament. Lutton tossed one inning of scoreless relief in the opening game win over Binghamton, before going 4.2 innings in an elimination game victory over the top-seeded Bearcats, in which he fanned two without allowing a run.

All-Academic squads for team sports are based on the number of athletes that participate in a contest at one time but can be more if there is a tie in voting. To be nominated for the distinction, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve for their team and participate in at least 50 percent of their team's games or competitions. In the classroom, student-athletes must have a 3.30 GPA and have completed at least one calendar year at their institution. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration.
