Four Finish At USA Indoor Track & Field National Championship
PORTLAND, Ore.—Over the weekend the University at Albany track & field program sent a record-high of four student-athletes to compete in the USA Track & Field Indoor National Championship in Portland, Oregon. This event served as their last indoor meet and closed the season.
The meet fielded top competitors from around the country looking to hit quality marks with many representing Adidas, Nike, New Balance, or running unattached.
Senior Taariq Jones ran in the men’s 400-meter dash preliminaries. He ran a 47.82 in his heat for 16th place. The overall winner was Vernon Norwood, who ran a 45.80 to represent New Balance.
In the final of the men’s weight throw, junior Jonathan Eustache placed 12th overall. He threw a mark of 65’-5”.The unattached first-place finisher was Colin Dunbar, throwing a mark of 78’-7½”.
Sophomore Jordan Crump-King competed in the men’s triple jump. He came in 15th overall with a mark of 47’-7 ¾”. Unattached Chris Carter placed first with a mark of 55’-11¾”.
In the finals for the women’s weight throw, Chinwe Igwe placed 12th overall. She threw a mark of 59’-2 ¼”. Gwen Berry placed first overall with a mark of 79’-10 ¾”, representing Nike/NYAC.
With the indoor season officially closed, the Great Danes will travel for spring break to open up the outdoor season at the Shamrock Invitational on March 17.
