Indoor Track Holds RACC Classic
Albany, N.Y.—The University at Albany indoor track and field program will kick off their season on Monday, when the team hosts the 22nd annual RACC Classic Intrasquad and Alumni Scrimmage. The Great Danes have been in preseason training since their arrival on campus in August without any competition.
The scrimmage started on Friday in with the weight throw and pole vault held in the UAlbany bubble. The 3,000-meter run was held on the outdoor track. Competition will resume Monday, December 7 at 10:00 a.m., at which point the shot put and discus will run until 2:00 p.m. in the bubble. The women’s high jump will begin in the SEFCU Arena at 3:00 p.m. followed by the men. Track events will begin at 4:30 p.m. starting with the 500-meter run.
"The team has worked hard and are excited for the 2016 season,” said Head Coach Roberto Vives. “I feel that this is potentially our best team ever!"
The RACC Classic is a test to determine where student-athletes are as preseason winds down and the official season starts. The official season will begin on January 16, when the teams travels to the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten, Island, N.Y. for the Great Dane Classic.
