Track & Field Wraps Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After a week off, the University at Albany track & field program returned to competition this weekend, taking another trip south for warmer weather.  This week, the Great Danes visited the University of Florida to partake in the Pepsi Florida Relays.  The meet started on Thursday and lasted through Saturday.


Osiris Nicholson was the first UAlbany athlete to compete in Florida.  He placed 41st in the men’s open 200m in a wind-aided 21.97.  Next up was Momodou Jobe, placed 35th in the men’s open 400m in 49.90.

In the college division of the men’s javelin, Adrian Mitchell used his first of six throws to record a personal-best mark of 219-10.00 to place seventh overall.  Phillip Udeogu placed 19th with a throw of 194-06.00.

In the women’s college 5,000m, Cara Sherman placed 13th in 17:20.18, followed by Hannah Reinhardt in 17th in 17:30.63, and Jessica Donohue in 24th in 17:43.03.  In the men’s collegiate 5,000m, the final event on Thursday, Ryan Udvadia placed sixth in 14:30.75, and Kyle Gronostaj placed seventh in 14:32.48.  Both times were outdoor personal-bests.


The second day for UAlbany began with some field events.  In the women’s collegiate discus, Amiynah Campbell placed 27th with a mark of 133-05.00., and in the women’s collegiate hammer, Chinwe Igwe placed 26th in 168-11.00.

Robert Harris III commenced the track events for the Great Danes on day two, placing 31st in the college men’s 100m in a wind-aided 10.51.  Sidney Gibbons placed 33rd in the college men’s 110m hurdles in 14.52.  In the college women’s 100m, Stephanie Osuji placed 38th in a wind-aided 11.86, and Dayleen Santana Rodriguez placed 61st in 12.08.

Halie Snyder placed 33rd in the college women’s 400m in 55.75.  In the men’s college 400m, Jason Tomlinson placed 31st in 48.21, Myles Banfield placed 42nd in 48.58, and Matthew LeLiever placed 51st in 49.07.

Jonathan Eustache placed third in the men’s college discus in 180-07.00, a personal-best by five feet.  His best mark tied second placed Adam Manns from East Carolina, but Eustache was displaced by a shorter second-best legal mark.

Chibugo Ike placed 50th in the women’s college 400m hurdles in 1:06.44.  Gibbons placed 47th in the men’s college 400m hurdles in 57.56.  The final event on Friday was the 1,500m.  Schuyler Pruyn placed 32nd in the women’s college 1,500m in 4:36.13, and Jake Johnson placed 21st in the men’s college 1,500m in 3:51.80.


The final day began for UAlbany with the women’s 4x100m shuttle hurdle relay.  The team of Niamani Morrison, Nichole Anderson, Mary Adeyeye, and Ike placed sixth in 59.09.  Eric DelVescovo kicked off the day three field events for UAlbany, placing 15th in the men’s college shot put in 51-11.25.

The women’s 4x100m relay team of Santana Rodriguez, Chanel Smith, Taahira Butterfield, and Osuji placed 24th in the college division in 46.01, displacing Marshall’s time in the following heat by one one-thousandth of a second.  The men’s 4x100m relay team of Harris III, Tomlinson, Nicholson, and Elliott Everett placed 29th in the college division in 41.46.

Tara Belinsky was the final individual to compete at the meet.  She placed ninth in the college women’s shot put in a personal-best 46-10.00.

The remaining events for UAlbany were exclusively relays.  The men’s 4x800m relay team of Evan DeGraw, Matthew JeanPierre, Joey Somerville, and Austin Sperl placed 10th in the college division in 7:38.21.  The men’s 4x200m relay team of Harris III, Tomlinson, Nicholson, and Lamine Gueye placed 21st in the college division in 1:26.52.  Finally, the women’s distance medley relay team of Nira Lovick, Jahari Coleman, Tiguida Toure, and Pruyn placed seventh in the college division in 12:05.82.

The Great Danes will not compete again until April 13 when a small contingent of the team will take part in the Mt. SAC Relays in California.  The rest of the team will remain in the Northeast and visit Connecticut for the Northeast Challenge.
