Men’s Track Wraps Florida Relays
Athletes of the Meet: Myles Banfield, Phillip Udeogu
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two weeks ago, during spring break, the University at Albany men’s track and field program split up and attended two concurrent meets in South Carolina and Puerto Rico. After a weekend free from competition, the men traveled south once again to participate in the Florida Relays at the University of Florida’s James G. Pressly Stadium.
UAlbany fielded four competitors in four events on Thursday, the first of three days of competition. Ryan Udavdia placed 18th in the college division of the 5,000m in 14:50.64. Phillip Udeogu placed ninth in the college division of the javelin with a throw of 202-00.00. It is the second-consecutive meet this season in which he has set a new personal best, and his first time recording a mark over 200’. Elliot Everett tied for 41st to the thousandths place in the open division of the 200m in 21.92 (21.917), and Momodou Jobe placed 20th in the open division of the 400m in 47.72, an outdoor personal best.
Friday was the busiest day of the meet for the men, with Great Danes entered in seven events. Three were entered in the college division of the 400m. Myles Banfield placed eighth in 46.93, Taariq Jones placed ninth in 46.97, and Jason Tomlinson placed 19th 47.71. Banfield's and Jones' marks were each outdoor personal bests, and Banfield's mark qualified him for this summer's World Junior Championships. Banfield (46.75) and Tomlinson (46.85) later joined up with Jobe (47.92) and Jaymen Teemer (49.60) later for the preliminary round of the college division 4x400m relay, placing 11th in 3:11.32.
Udvadia competed for the second consecutive day, placing 56th in the college division of the 1,500 in 4:04.57. Jordan Johnson placed 19th in the college division of the 3,000m steeplechase in 9:22.95.
UAlbany’s first field event competitors got in on the action starting on Friday as well. Alexander Bowen placed second in the college invite division of the high jump, clearing a height of 7-01.00. Jonathan Eustache placed seventh in the college division of the discus with a personal-best throw of 166-04.00.
The men fielded two sprint relay teams on Saturday, the 4x100m and the 4x200m. In the 4x100m, the team of Robert Harris III, Teemer, Tomlinson, and Everett placed 30th in the college division in 41.49. In the 4x200m, the team of Harris III, Jones, Everett, and Teemer placed 18th in the college division in 1:27.08.
Kingsley Ogbonna tied for sixth in the college division of the high jump, clearing a height of 6-09.00. Eric Del Vescovo placed 15th in the college division of the shot put with a throw of 52-01.25. Jordan Crump-King placed 19th in the college division of the triple jump with a mark of 47-07.75.
Next up for UAlbany is a trip to Burlington, Vermont for a dual meet against the Catamounts on Tuesday, April 12. That same week will see the contesting of the Mt. SAC Relays in California.
