Women's Basketball Visits Vermont

UAlbany Sports Information   02-07-2018

ALBANY, N.Y. – Just four games ago, the University at Albany women’s basketball team hosted Vermont on January 24 for Commitment to Education Day.  The Great Danes defeated the Catamounts by 12 points.  Thursday, the team will visit Burlington to play Vermont again, in the shortest turnaround with a single opponent this regular season (15 days).

The Great Danes last hosted UMass Lowell and defeated the Riverhawks 93-60.  It was the second time UAlbany had exceeded 90 points this season, having previously done so when they scored 97 in overtime against Northern Illinois in their second game in Puerto Rico.

Tiana-Jo Carter recorded the fifth perfect game in UAlbany history, shooting 11-11 from the floor and 4-4 from the line en route to a career-high 26 points.  It was the first perfect game since Becky Ayers went 10-10 against Pepperdine in 2003.

Vermont last played against New Hampshire, defeating the Wildcats on the road 58-53.  When the teams played in Burlington, Vermont saw the game slip away in the final 10 seconds as the Wildcats rallied to escape 52-49.

UAlbany remains in first place in the America East.  They are tied with Maine in the conference record, with both schools going 9-2 so far, but UAlbany is four games up in overall record and currently holds a head-to-head tiebreaker over the Black Bears with one regular-season meeting remaining.  Vermont is currently seventh in the standings, and tied in the conference loss column with sixth-place Stony Brook.

After the game against Vermont, UAlbany will return to SEFCU Arena to host the final two home games of the regular season, starting Sunday, February 11 against Hartford and ending Saturday, February 17 against UMBC.
