ALBANY, N.Y. – For the first time this season, the University at Albany women’s basketball team has earned a spot in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25, coming in at #22 in their season debut in the poll.
In last week’s poll, the Great Danes drew 44 points to fall just outside the top-25. Their point total increased to 121, placing the team squarely between #21 IUPUI and #23 William & Mary. New Hampshire, the only other America East school in the poll, ranks #20 this week, having fallen from their spot at #13 last week.
The Great Danes have won their last five in a row, including three straight on the road in a seven-day span, at Holy Cross, at Manhattan, and at Siena. UAlbany notched two more victories in short succession, at home vs. St. Bonaventure this past Sunday and in Puerto Rico against Southern Illinois on Tuesday.
Green Bay maintained its position atop the poll, garnering 775 points behind 31 of 32 possible first place votes. South Dakota State earned the last first-place vote, claiming the #2 ranking.
UAlbany has one more game in Puerto Rico, on Thursday against Northern Illinois, who received 10 points in this week’s poll.
