Short Story: UAlbany scored the first goal of the game but fell to Colgate 2-1 after a 70th minute goal from the Raiders.
UAlbany: Kimberly Dieroff scored her first goal of her collegiate career in the 10th minute. Andrea Leitner got the loss in goal despite six saves while Mariah Williams led UAlbany with five shots.
Colgate: Linsey Wiley scored the team’s first goal in the 40th minute from Syd Maxson, following by Ellis Miller unassisted in the 70th minute. Sophia Boggs picked up the win in the goal, saving four shots.
UAlbany was edged in shots 13-10 by Colgate.
10’ UAlbany goal – A Kopp throw-in to Kimberly Dieroff lands in the center of the box. Dieroff turns and shoots, scoring past a diving Boggs in the left side of the net.
40’ Colgate goal – A free kick was sent into the box by Syd Maxson. Lindsey Wiley ran and pushed the ball into the cage for the goal.
70’ Colgate goal – Ellis Miller leads a Colgate counter attack from midfield. She stops to throw off a defender, shoots from 18 yards out and scores.

Recap: Despite Dieroff scoring in the opening 10 minutes of the game, the UAlbany women’s soccer team fell 2-1 after a comeback from Colgate on Sunday at Casey Stadium.
In a relatively even game, UAlbany was outshot in the contest 13-10 to Colgate. Colgate put seven shots on goal to UAlbany’s five.
UAlbany struck first in the 10th minute as Dieroff received a throw-in in the center of the box. She turned and shot on cage, scoring in the left half of the cage to put UAlbany up 1-0. UAlbany put another couple of long range shots at the cage in the following minutes, each being saved. Leitner held against a couple of shots to the cage, but Colgate equalized as Wiley pushed a free kick from Maxson into the net in the 40th minute to set halftime at 1-1.
Each side exchanged corner kicks in the opening 15 minutes of the second, with neither scoring. Colgate took the lead in the 70th minute, counter attacking with a 2-on-3. Ellis got open, stopping just inside the box to avoid a defender, then scoring on a line drive shot. UAlbany got a final shot off on a free kick from 24 yards out, but Williams’s shot went over the crossbar. Colgate took the 2-1 victory.
UAlbany heads east on Thursday, September 14th for a mid-week matchup at Rhode Island at 7 p.m.
