ALBANY, N.Y. – The two-time defending America East Tournament champion UAlbany women’s soccer team has been predicted to finish second in the league in the 2017 season in the preseason coaches poll, announced on Wednesday.

UAlbany had the most first place votes in the poll with five, totaling 57 points.  UAlbany was one point behind Hartford, getting three first place votes and 58 points.

UAlbany head coach Nick Bochette is set for his first season at the helm of the Great Danes.  He was the team’s associate head coach the past two years, helping UAlbany with its first two America East Tournament titles.  Last year, UAlbany picked up its first-ever America East regular season title, defeating Hartford 2-1 in the tournament final to win the championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament.  UAlbany finished 11-8-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the America East.

The preseason poll is voted on by the league’s head coaches.

New Hampshire got the remaining first place vote and is predicted at third with 51 points, followed by Stony Brook at fourth with 45 points.  The rest of the poll is filled out by Vermont (32) in fifth, a tie for sixth between Maine (26) and UMass Lowell (26), Binghamton (17) and UMBC (12).

UAlbany kicks off the 2017 campaign at Old Dominion on Sunday, August 20th at 6 p.m. in Norfolk, Virginia.
