ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany has finished #40 nationally in the 2016-17 Capital One Cup men's standings.
The Capital One Cup is awarded annually to each of the best men's and women's Division I college athletics programs in the country. Points toward the Capital One Cup are earned and tracked throughout the year based on final standings of NCAA Championships and final official coaches' polls.
UAlbany earned 18 points in the final men's standings to tie for 40th overall. UAlbany placed tied for 10th among non-Power Five programs, second among schools in the state of New York and first among schools in the America East Conference.
In individual sport standings, the men's lacrosse team finished fifth overall with a victory over UNC in the NCAA First Round and defeat to the eventual NCAA champion Maryland.
Men's soccer also contributed to UAlbany's overall standings, earning a trip the NCAA Round of 16 with a victory over Boston College.
On the men's side, Ohio State finished first with 111 points, followed by Florida at 105 and North Carolina at 100.
