Matthew Barber joined the UAlbany strength and conditioning staff in 2017 and oversees all aspects of strength and conditioning for each football and men's basketball.
Previous to UAlbany, Barber served as an assistant strength & conditioning coach at the University of Arizona, working with football, women's basketball and track & field. He designed the football student-athlete developmental strength program, oversaw the Incoming Student-Athlete Developmental Strength Program for Football and assisted with the department's internship program.
For two years, Barber was the assistant director of football strength & conditioning at the University of Maryland. He has also worked at the University of Iowa and the University of Maine.
He is an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and also holds certifications in Functional Movement Systems (FMS) and CPR/AED from the American Heart Association.
He graduated from Maine in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology and physical education- exercise science and was a Sporting News Preseason Third Team All-American in 2009. He earned his Master's Degree from Nevada-Reno in Educational Leadership in 2015.
