Women's Basketball Signs Kantzy
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany women's basketball program has added its first new recruit for the 2017-18 season. Amanda Kantzy, a 6' 3” forward from Vallingby, Sweden will transfer in to UAlbany from Colorado State.
Kantzy will have to sit out the 2017-18 season, but will have two years of eligibility remaining when she is able to take the court when the 2018 season begins.
In two seasons at Colorado State, Kantzy appeared in 53 games, averaging 2.1 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.4 assists as a key reserve for the Rams. She scored a career-high 16 points in 15 minutes against Fresno State on January 18, 2017. Before arriving at Colorado State, Kantzy played for Damligan champion Northland Lulea, the U-19 BG Lulea team, BG Lulea BK, and Alvik Basket.
“I am excited to have Amanda join our UAlbany basketball family,” said head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee. “She is an excellent shooter and at 6'3 she is very versatile with the ability to face up and play with her back to the basket. I am equally impressed with her character and her desire to be both a great player and a great student. We're looking forward to spending this upcoming season teaching her our style of play so that she can be a difference maker when she becomes eligible in the fall of 2018.”
The team will continue training through the summer in preparation for the beginning of the 2017-18 season this coming fall.
