Buechele competed in only one meet during the outdoor season, the Northeast Challenge at Connecticut. He placed seventh in the pole vault, clearing 14’-5.25”, 11th in the discus, throwing 84’-1”, and 13th in the javelin, throwing 126’. His pole vault result set a personal-best.

Buechele competed in only three meets during the indoor season. His first meet was the season-opening Nittany Lion Challenge at Penn State, where he placed 10th in the pole vault in 14’-1.25”. He was entered in the heptathlon in his next meet, Cornell’s Upstate Challenge, but only was able to complete the first event, the 60m, which he won in 7.14. He competed in the full heptathlon at the America East Indoor Championships, placing seventh overall, scoring 4,508 points.

Buechele opened the season at the Upstate Classic, setting a personal-best in the pole vault, clearing 14’-3.25” to place third overall. He recorded personal-bests in the open 100m and long jump, with marks of 11.57 and 19’-2.5” respectively. He also tied his best mark in the pole vault. At the America East Outdoor Championships, Buechele competed in his only decathlon of the season, placing eighth overall with 5,176 points. During the competition, Buechele recorded collegiate-best marks in the 100m, 110m hurdles, 400m, 1,500m, high jump, shot put, discus, and javelin.

In his first meet as a Greate Dane, Buechele ran a personal-best in the open 60m at the Penn State Indoor Relays, crossing the line in 7.38. Buechele competed in the heptathlon at the Cornell Upstate Challenge, placing 13th overall with 3,527 points. He set collegiate-bests in the 60m, 60m hurdles, 1,000m, and long jump.

Buechele was a four-year letter-winner at Arlington High School, where he also played soccer, wrestled, and ran cross country. In the two years he played soccer his team was a combined 23-3. As a wrestler, his team recorded a 12-1 record in his only season. His track team never suffered a defeat in his four years as a member, including his sole cross country season during his junior year. He served as track team captain as a junior and a senior. In his junior year, Buechele won the pole vault at both the indoor and outdoor New York State Championships. He was named most valuable field athlete in 2011 and 2012. Additionally, Buechele was named to the All-League team and the All-County team in each of his four years of competition.

Personal:
Stefan William Buechele is the son of Juergen and Elizabeth Buechele. He has two sisters, Jacqueline and Madison. His uncle, Tim Gunther, ran track at UAlbany. He plans to major in atmospheric sciences.
