After closing the first weekend of the 2017 indoor schedule with the Great Dane Classic, the University at Albany track & field program had two student-athletes named as Week 3 Performers of the Week, the conference offices announced Tuesday.
The University at Albany track & field program hosted the 14th annual Great Dane Classic on Saturday. For the second consecutive year, the meet was hosted at Staten Island's new Ocean Breeze facility, after spending the previous 12 iterations at the Armory. The women's team placed second behind Princeton in the team standings, scoring 90.33 points, and the men placed fourth behind Connecticut, George Mason, and Buffalo, with 60.5 points.
In early December, the University at Albany track & field program held its annual soft opening for the upcoming indoor season with its intra-squad scrimmage. What was different this year, however, is that a segment of the team visited Boston University's Track and Tennis Center for an early-December meet against live competition.
BOSTON-Four UAlbany Great Danes have been named America East Performers of the Week after their performance in the Boston University Season Opener this past weekend. In the season opener, UAlbany swept all four titles with sprinter Grace Claxton earning Women's Track Performer of the Week; Chinwe Igwe won Women's Field Performer of the Week. Freshman Lamine Gueye won Men's Track Performer of the Week, and Eric DelVescovo took the title of Men's Field Performer of the Week.
BOSTON-The University at Albany indoor track and field program officially started their season this weekend at the Boston University Season Opener. The Great Danes had their best season opener performance in school history, breaking school records and qualifying numerous student-athletes for ECAC and IC4A.
Albany, N.Y.—The University at Albany indoor track program held their 23rd annual RACC Classic Intrasquad and Alumni Scrimmage this week. This marked the first unofficial competition for the Great Danes since their arrival on campus in August.
On the eve of the 2016-17 season, the University at Albany men's and women's track & field programs announced their team captains. Four women and four men were selected by their teammates to lead the Great Danes through the upcoming season.
