Track Lands Four On Indoor All-Academic Team

The University at Albany track & field program saw four student-athletes earn America East All-Academic honors for the latest indoor season, the conference offices announced Thursday. The quartet, Mary Adeyeye, Tara Belinsky, Kyle Gronostaj, and Matthew LeLiever, were named among a total of 22 America East standouts who excel both academically and athletically.

Though the indoor season just ended last week, with seniors Matthew Campbell and Grace Claxton earning All-America Second Team honors at NCAA Indoor Championships, the University at Albany track & field program will compete in its first meet of the outdoor season on Saturday during the team's annual spring break trip to Puerto Rico's Spring Break Classic.

University at Albany senior high jumper Matthew Campbell placed 11th in his signature event at NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday. Campbell cleared 7-00.50, tying in height with ninth place Ken Legassey from Arkansas, and 10th place Zachary Blackham from BYU.

For the second consecutive season, the University at Albany track & field program will be represented at NCAA Championships by men's high jumper Matthew Campbell and women's sprinter Grace Claxton. Campbell ranks 14th nationally in the high jump, and Claxton ranks 14th in the 400m.

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the 2017 indoor track regional awards winners Monday. Roberto Vives, Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at the University at Albany was named Men's Coach of the Year for the Northeast region.

For the first time in program history, the University at Albany men's and women's track & field program won both IC4A and ECAC Indoor Championships. It is the men's first IC4A Indoor title since winning back to back titles in 2009 and 2010, and for the women's it is the first-ever ECAC Indoor title.

For the second consecutive weekend, the University at Albany track & field program visited Boston University's Track and Tennis Center. Last week, the Great Danes won their fifth consecutive men's and women's America East indoor championships, with the men winning their 12th straight and the women winning their fifth straight. This week, the team returns to compete in IC4A and ECAC Indoor Championships.

Fresh off of winning the America East Indoor Championships together for the fifth consecutive year, the University at Albany track & field program saw both the men and the women climb in the Northeast regional rankings, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Monday. The men jumped two spots to take fifth, while the women climbed one to take ninth.
