The University at Albany track & Field and cross country program has announced an incoming recruiting class of 32 student athletes for the 2017-18 season. Twenty women and 12 men will join the top squad in the America East, including three transfer students, two international students, and one capital region native.
The America East announced that numerous UAlbany student-athletes were added to the league's winter/spring 2017 honor roll for academic excellence.
Three current University at Albany track & field student-athletes competed this past weekend. Adrian Mitchell, fresh off his All-America Second Team performance in the men's javelin at NCAA Outdoor Championships returned home to his native Jamaica to compete in Jamaica Senior Outdoor Championships. Fellow rising sophomores Hannah Reinhardt and Omahri Sturdivant participated in the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships. Finally, UAlbany alumna Grace Claxton also competed at Jamaica Senior Outdoor Championships for her native Puerto Rico in an effort to qualify for IAAF World Outdoor Championships in London later this summer.
The University at Albany track & field program will send two representatives to compete in the 2017 USATF Junior National Championships in Sacramento, Calif. The women's team will send rising sophomore Hannah Reinhardt to compete in the 5,000m, and the men will sent rising sophomore Omahri Sturdivant to compete in the triple jump.
Competing on Day One of the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon, University at Albany freshman Adrian Mitchell placed 14th in the men's javelin throw among the final field of 24 competitors. Mitchell earned All-America Second Team honors with his finish in the top 16 competitors in the field.
After earning his place in the championship field, University at Albany freshman Adrian Mitchell will finally make the trip to Eugene, Oregon to compete in the men's javelin at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Mitchell is the only Great Dane to qualify for the meet this season.

Eight student-athletes on the University at Albany track & field program remain active this late into a championship season that began on the first weekend in May. These eight have qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Championships, which will take place at the University of Kentucky after spending the last few years at the University of North Florida.
