Women's Golf Receives Program Best Ranking

ALBANY, N.Y.—The Golfstat Division I Women's Golf rankings were released October 17, 2017 ranking the UAlbany Great Danes at 152. To date this is the program's best ranking to date. "When the ranking came out, I was very pleased and excited to see our program at its best ever. It is a direct reflection of the hard work and talent this team has displayed over the summer and the entire fall season," said head coach Colleen Cashman-McSween. "Any given weekend, all the players have the ability to lead this team and it is huge when you know you can count on every player to play well." This season the Women's Golf Team has been very successful with three top-five finishes at tough tournaments. Additionally, sophomore Helga Einarsdottir was just recently named the MAAC Women's Golfer of the Month. Einarsdottir's best performance was at the Rutgers Invitational where she tied for 4th overall shooting nine over par. Other consistent top performers have been sophomores Annika Espino and Megan Henry. In the past two tournaments at Dartmouth and Yale, the duo tied for 20th at each course, both shooting eight over par. ".When I first started here at UAlbany, it was a goal of mine to get this program into the Top 125 in the country and we are most definitely going in the right direction to achieve that," said Cashman-McSween. UAlbany is currently in the midst of competing in its final fall tournament of the season at the Lady Blue Hen Invitational in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Megan Henry and Annika Espino finished on top for the Great Danes tying for 20th. Round Scores: 297-310 --- 607 (+39)

Einarsdottir Named MAAC Female Golfer of the Month

ALBANY, N.Y.—Helga Einarsdottir was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Month. This sophomore from Iceland has recorded outstanding scores for the month of September including a program record at Rutgers. At Rutgers, Einarsdottir shot 9 over par (225) in the three-round tournament with round scores of 78-69-78. Her second round score of 69 was a program best, which also tied for the lowest round score of the tournament. Einarsdottir's 69 round (five under par) was composed of six birdies and a bogey.

St., LIU, Holy Cross, and Fairfield Location: Hanover, NH – Hanover Country Club Short Story: UAlbany Women's Golf places 2nd at the Dartmouth Invitational led by top-ten finishers Annie Lee (T5) and Helga Einarsdottir (T7). Each UAlbany team member finished in the top-half of the Invitational composed of 63 golfers.

Women's Golf Travels to Dartmouth Invitational

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The University at Albany women's golf team plays its third tournament of the fall season this Saturday Sept. 23rd and Sunday, Sept. 24th competing in the Dartmouth Invitational at Hanover Country Club in Hanover, N.H. THE FIELD UAlbany will compete with ten other participating schools: Dartmouth, Boston University, Quinnipiac, Hartford, Central Connecticut, LIU Brooklyn, Siena, Fairfield, Sacred Heart, and Holy Cross.   2016 DARTMOUTH INVITATIONAL Last season at Dartmouth, Annika Espino sunk the program's first hole-in-one on her 10th hole, shooting the team-low of 72. Last year, Boston College took the tournament title shooting 584. The Great Danes shot scores of (325-297: 622 overall). UAlbany improved their round one scores the second day, cutting 28 strokes to move from 12th place to 7th. Annie Songeun Lee and graduated senior Paige Fujihara tied for 22nd overall shooting 155 between the two days.

Women's Golf Tees Off 2017 Fall Season at Rutgers

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany women's golf team opens its Fall 2017 campaign Sept. 9-10, competing in the Rutgers Women's Golf Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will begin with 36 holes on Saturday and a final round of 18 on Sunday at Rutgers University Golf Course. UAlbany will take on a field of 11 teams, including Rutgers, Delaware, Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgetown, Hofstra, Long Island University, Sacred Heart, Siena, St. John's, and Wagner College. Tee times are between 7:45 and 9:40 a.m. on both days. Results will be posted here at the conclusion of each round. The Great Danes return all six players from last year, including two top-ten MAAC Championship finishers, Helga Einarsdottir and Megan Henry. Also returning is senior leader Annie Songeun-Lee who was the 2015 MAAC individual champion. The Rutgers Invitational marks the first of five tournaments that UAlbany is slated to compete in this fall. 

Women's Golf 2017 Preview

Capitalizing on current strength, the University at Albany Women's Golf team starts the season with a squad of all returning veterans. Returning back on the first day of classes the Great Danes have two weeks to prepare until their first fall tournament in Piscataway, NJ at the Rutgers University Golf Course. Colleen Cashman-McSween will enter her fifth season at UAlbany as the head coach. "The fall season is always a whirlwind getting started and heading directly into our first tournament of the year. I try to emphasize with the team how important it is to remain competitive over the summer and practice hard because with only 7 days of practice before the first event, that doesn't leave a lot of time to sharpen skills," said head coach Cashman-McSween. "I think everyone had a great summer and is really looking forward to getting the season underway." EXPERIENCED RETURNERS This season the Great Danes' roster will be composed of six golfers, all returners and no freshman. "This season will be a team effort. For the first time in my coaching years, I do not have any incoming freshman to start the season simply because we had four freshman in the starting line-up last spring," said Cashman-McSween. "I think this brings a lot of pulses to this year's team because they come with experience and knowledge of how everything works and they have been to most of the fall tournaments that we will be attending." Leading the team will be senior Annie Songuen Lee holds the 2015 MAAC Individual Champion title. Other key assets include two top ten 2016 MAAC Championship finishers, sophomore Helga Einarsdottir (T-3rd) and sophomore Megan Henry (T-10th). NEW ASSISTANT Although the team has added no new players, Cashman-McSween has added a new assistant coach to the program, Matthew Ragovin.
