Fujihara Leads UAlbany to a 2nd Place Finish at the 2017 MAAC Championship

LAKE BUENA VISTA, F.L.—Trailing behind by six strokes, the University at Albany Women's Golf team claimed second place at the MAAC Championship this afternoon. The team shot three round scores of 324-312-309, for a total score of 945, +81. Quinnipiac took home the team shooting 939 overall (320, 307, 312). Behind UAlbany was Monmouth (961), Dayton (975), and Siena (1006). In sixth place it was Hartford (1011), followed by Niagra (1012), Fairfield (1039), and La Salle (1233). "Considering this was majority of the teams first conference they did very well. I am so proud of them for the hard work they have put in these last couple of weeks. Big things are going to happen with this team in the future, I am sure of it," said senior Paige Fujihara. Fujihara finished her last round of golf as a Great Dane placing second overall with a score of 233 (78-75-80, +17), just two strokes away from the individual title. Following two strokes behind Fujihara was Helga Einarsdottir who tied for third with a score of 235 (83-78-74, +19). Next was Megan Henry who shot round scores of 79-83-77, which totaled 239 overall (+23). After Henry was the 2015 individual champion, Annie Lee who tied for 13th with a score of 241 (84-79-78, +25). Finally, Caroline Juillat placed 23rd and shot 252 overall (85-80-87, +36). "I am pleased that we had 3 players in the Top 10 and it was a bitter sweet finish for Paige finishing 2nd in her final tournament as a Great Dane. We are a very young team with 3 Freshman competing and with some hard work and more tournament experience over the summer I'm looking forward to everyone coming back a little more confident and ready for a new year," said head coach Colleen Cashman McSween.

Women's Golf to Tee Off at MAAC Championship

ALBANY, N.Y.—The Univesity at Albany Women's Golf team heads to the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship in Lake Buena Vista, Florida at Disney's Magnolia Course. The championship will begin on Friday, April 21st and end on Sunday, April 23rd. Live results for all three days of action can be accessed here. The final day of play will be broadcast live on ESPN 3 beginning at 10 AM. The MAAC Field: UAlbany, Dayton, Fairfield, Hartford, Niagra, Monmouth, Siena, Quinnipiac This is UAlbany's eighth appearance at the MAAC Championship since becoming a member in 2010. Last spring, the Great Danes placed 5th out of the eight team field. Quinnipiac took home the overall title. In 2015 the Great Danes took home the program's first MAAC title. Prior to 2010, UAlbany won America East titles in 2004, 2008, and 2009. The Great Danes are coming in strong to the MAAC Championship after a first place finish this past weekend at the Hartford Hawks Invitational. Senior Paige Fujihara and freshman Helga Einarsdottir were the top scorers for the Great Danes tying for fourth. Annie Songuen Lee will bring experience to the course this weekend. In 2015 she took home the MAAC individual title. The MAAC champion will receive automatic bids to the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships.

Golf Ties for 1st at the Hartford Hawks Invitational

BLOOMFIELD, C.T.-- The University at Albany Women's Golf Team ties for first at the Hartford Hawks Women's Invitational with Sacred Heart University. UAlbany shot team scores of 315-320 (635 +59) in the two-day tournament. Team Results: T1: University at Albany (635) T1: Sacred Heart University (635) 3: Wagner College (642) 4: Hartford (658) 5: Fairfield University (713) "This weekend was very important to us as a team to finish out our regular season on a high note. The team hung tough and made up for the five stroke deficit to catch the team in front of us. We have traveled to amazing destinations this season including Hawaii and Florida, but we haven't played the strongest golf. So today it was uplifting to come out with the victory," said Head Coach Colleen Cashman-McSween.

ALBANY, N.Y.— The Women's Golf team heads to Hartford for the Hartford Hawks Women's Invitational Friday, April 14th - Saturday, April 15th. The Course: Tumble Brook Country Club (Bloomfield, Conn.) 6313 yards, par 72 With the MAAC Championships just around the corner, the University at Albany will step out on the course for one last tournament. ALBANY, N.Y.-- The Hartford Hawk Women's Invitational has been postponed to April 13-15 due to cumulative rainfall. The Tumble Brook Course in Bloomfield, CT is currently closed due to the 1.5 inches of rain this past Monday and Tuesday.

Women's Golf Finishes 15th in Hawaii

KAPALUA, MAUI— The Great Danes took 15th out of 15 at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic shooting a three round score of 965 (+101), with round scores of 328, 318, 319. UCLA took home the team title shooting 852 (-12), followed by Arizona State who shot 869 (+5) and San Jose State who shot 877 (+5).

Women's Golf Finishes Final Round in Dade City, Fla.

The Great Danes finished 13th in Dade City, Florida at the Lake Jovita Golf Club. UAlbany shot a total of 980 (+116) with round scores of 332-323-325. Georgia Southern took the team title shooting a 897 (+33), followed by Southern Miss, Boston College (899), and Florida Gulf Coast (907) in the top four. For UAlbany, Annie Lee led the way placing 45th overall in the field of 77 golfers. She shot round scores of 83-75-80 for a total score of 238. Megan Henry followed close behind tying for 48th place with a score of 239 (82-78-79), while Paige Fujihara shot a 254 (87-82-85). Caroline Juillat (256) and Annika Espino (260) rounded out UAlbany's line up. Up next, the Great Danes will compete in the Avenue Spring Break Classic in Kapalua, Hawaii. UAlbany will compete in the three-day tournament starting March 27th-March 29th at the Kapalua Golf Club Bay Course.

Women's Golf Takes their Clubs to Dade City, Florida to Compete in Spring Break Shootout

ALBANY, N.Y. – UAlbany travels to Dade City, Florida to compete in their first spring tournament of the 2017 season. The tournament will take place Monday and Tuesday, March 13-14 and is hosted by Western Kentucky University and the University of Southern Mississippi. THE TEAM In the fall, UAlbany competed in five tournaments with three impressive finishes including a 2nd place finish at the Quinnipiac Classic. The Great Danes roster has changed since the fall, graduating seniors Rosalee Hearns and Yoorim Kang. However, head coach Colleen Cashman-McSween has filled their void with new additions, Caitlan Blydenburgh and Helga Einarsdottir. Leaders, Annie Songeun Lee and Paige Fujihara will return this weekend. Lee's best finish in the fall was at the Rutger's Invitational where she tied for second shooting 10 over par, while Fujihara's best finish was at dual match against Sienna where she placed 1st. THE COMPETITION The Great Danes will be up against a talented 13-team field featuring Fort Wayne, Tennessee Tech, St. John's, North Florida, W Kentucky, Southern Miss, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia Southern, Boston College, Samford, and Jacksonville State. They will also face last year's MAAC champion, Quinnipiac. THE COURSE Lake Jovita Golf Club is a par 72, 6,325 yard course. The Great Danes will tee-off at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Women's Golf Ties for First Place in MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll The University at Albany has tied for first place in the 2017 Women's Golf MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Great Danes received a total of 71 points with the highest number of first place votes (5) in the poll, making it the third season in a row where the Great Danes have been selected to finish first in the MAAC Women's Golf Championship.
