Eli Mencer's returned a fumble for a touchdown in overtime to give the University at Albany a 19-10 victory over Villanova on Saturday night at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.

#20 UAlbany Takes Down the Defending National Champion

NEWARK, DE—#20 UAlbany Field Hockey beat the defending 2016 National Champions the Delaware Blue Hens. The Great Danes put an end to Delaware's 17-game win streak at home stretching from October 8th 2015. Field Hockey Score: #20 UAlbany 3 -  #5 Delaware 2 Location: Newark, DE Season Records: UAlbany 4-3   Delaware 6-2 Short Story: The Great Danes strategically swept Delaware 3-2 in overtime. Melissa Nealon recorded 13 saves in the goal, orchestrating a tight defense that held off strong Blue Hen defenders. In overtime, Kelsey Briddell scored the game-winning goal in the 80th minute with an assist from Anna Bottino. KEY STATS ¥ Melissa Nealon recorded a career high of 13 saves in the goal. ¥ UAlbany recorded a high goal percentage of .375 compared to Delaware's .105. ¥ Kelsey Briddell recorded two goals, while Anna Bottino recorded two assists. HOW IT HAPPENED The Great Danes started off the game heavily relying on defense. Melissa Nealon saved eight shots before any goals were put on the board. In the 30th minute, Delaware took an opportunity at the goal to place the Blue Hens ahead 1-0. However, the Great Danes flipped a switch. Less than a minute later, Kelsey Briddell shot her first goal of the season from 15 yards away, straight on. In the 47th minute of the second half, Delaware scored again on a loose ball off of the goalie pads. Once again, the Great Danes looked to tie the score. In the 56th minute Katie MacCallum scored off of a crossing pass from Anna Bottino. Both UAlbany and Delaware were unable to score for the rest of regulation. In overtime both the Blue Hens and the Great Danes recorded two shots. However, UAlbany came out on top with Kelsey Briddell's second goal of the game. The goal came on the right side, five yards away after a fake to make the final score 3-2.

UAlbany Volleyball Takes Down Binghamton 3-1 in AE Home Opener

The UAlbany volleyball team, using 11 team blocks, defeated Binghamton in four sets to begin America East play with a victory.

Men 10th, Women 17th at Battle in Beantown

Following a three-week layoff, the University at Albany returned to competition in Boston amidst a field of regional championship contenders. The men placed 10th and the women placed 17th in the team standings behind personal bests from top team finishers Ryan Udvadia and Hannah Reinhardt, respectively.

Men's Soccer Visits Harvard

Finally securing the first road win of the 2017 season, the University at Albany men's soccer team (5-2-0) will play on the road for the second consecutive game on Sunday when they pay a visit to Harvard.

Pinheiro Selected As 2017 Senior CLASS Award Candidate

University at Albany men's soccer forward Afonso Pinheiro has been named as a candidate for the 2017 Senior Class Award for men's soccer. Pinheiro was one of 60 NCAA soccer student-athletes (30 men and 30 women) named on Friday.

Women's Golf Travels to Dartmouth Invitational

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The University at Albany women's golf team plays its third tournament of the fall season this Saturday Sept. 23rd and Sunday, Sept. 24th competing in the Dartmouth Invitational at Hanover Country Club in Hanover, N.H. THE FIELD UAlbany will compete with ten other participating schools: Dartmouth, Boston University, Quinnipiac, Hartford, Central Connecticut, LIU Brooklyn, Siena, Fairfield, Sacred Heart, and Holy Cross.   2016 DARTMOUTH INVITATIONAL Last season at Dartmouth, Annika Espino sunk the program's first hole-in-one on her 10th hole, shooting the team-low of 72. Last year, Boston College took the tournament title shooting 584. The Great Danes shot scores of (325-297: 622 overall). UAlbany improved their round one scores the second day, cutting 28 strokes to move from 12th place to 7th. Annie Songeun Lee and graduated senior Paige Fujihara tied for 22nd overall shooting 155 between the two days.

#20 Field Hockey to Face Defending National Champion

ALBANY, NY—This weekend #20 UAlbany Field Hockey will face both competitors featured in the 2016 NCAA Field Hockey National Championship, #5 Delaware and #7 North Carolina. Schedule: @ Delaware: Friday, September 22nd, 6 P.M. Newark, Delaware North Carolina: Sunday, September 24th, 1 P.M. on Alumni Turf #5 DELAWARE No. 5 Delaware is the 2016 defending National Champion. Delaware will step on the turf 6-1 on the season. Their most notable win was a 2-0 victory over #3 Penn State. The Blue Hens have tallied 4.14 goals scored per game versus their opponents' 1.43 per game. Player to Watch: Leading the Blue Hens is Greta Nauck from Krefeld, Germany. In 2016, Nauck was named as a First Team All-American and was awarded the CSWA Honda Sport Award for field hockey leading the nation in points (76) and goals (33). This season she totals 17 points with 7 goals. Against UAlbany: In program history the Great Danes have competed against Delaware five times. UAlbany is 4-1 in the series. Last season, the Blue Hens took the contest 3-1. The Danes' lone goal was shot by current sophomore Dana Bozek.

Cross Country Returns To Action In Boston
