The #7/6 UAlbany men's lacrosse team completed its fifth consecutive perfect America East season on Saturday night, using a 7-0 run in the second half to sprint past Hartford 16-10.
The UAlbany women's lacrosse team lit up the scoreboard with four different players earning at least five points, notching a 21-10 victory over Binghamton to finish out the America East regular season in second place.
The University at Albany track & field team competed in its final split weekend of the 2017 outdoor season with one week to go before conference championships. Saturday saw the conclusion of the Penn Relays, where the competing Great Danes had already broken four school records, and also the Capital District Classic at RPI, where those who did not make the trip to Philadelphia had their final opportunity for a tune-up before championship season begins next week.
The University at Albany baseball team (14-22, 3-11 AE) kicked off an eight-game home stand on Saturday with a doubleheader in a rematch series against UMBC (16-17, 9-5 AE). Last time out the Great Danes lost two of three games to the Retrievers. Saturday, UAlbany dropped the first game 15-8, and dropped the second 5-2.
Wade Goes 3 for 3 at the Plate to Take the Win Over Hartford ALBANY, N.Y.— UAlbany's 24 hits sent them 2-0 over the Hartford Hawks in a doubleheader this afternoon with game scores of 6-0 and 9-1. "Today was a good day for us all around. The pitchers especially did a really nice job holding Hartford to 5 hits on the day. Hopefully we are able to build on today as we head into the final two weekends of the year," said head coach Chris Cannata. GAME 1 (6-0) Bailey Turner (7-5) was in command of the circle in the first game striking out five batters, allowing only two hits with no earned runs. The Great Danes began to connect in the bottom of the third with four runs and four hits. With Kelly Spear and Donna Conrad sitting on base, Liz Snow sent a single to left field to score Conrad. Next, Chelsea Henige doubled sending in one run. Sarah Petzold then hit a shot through the right side to score two more runs. By the end of the third the Great Danes led 4-0. In the bottom of the fifth Kayla Bailey started the Great Danes off by a bunt single. To cap off the Great Dane runs, Liz Snow shot a home run ball over the fence to make the final score 6-0. Both Liz Snow and Donna Conrad went 2-2, while Sarah Petzold went 2-3. GAME 2 (9-1 in 5 Innings) Celeste Verdolivo (6-7) earned her 6th pitching win this season striking out five batters allowing only two hits and no earned runs. Aliyah Wade had an impressive performance in the second game going 3-3 at the plate, scoring two runs. The Great Danes wasted no time in the second game and immediately put five runs on the board in the first inning. Wade started the inning with a single to short stop waiting for Liz Snow to approach the plate. Snow crushed her second homerun of the day over the fence to score two runs. ALBANY, N.Y. – The UAlbany Softball team is set to compete in its final home series of the year against the Hartford Hawks on Saturday, April 29th for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and Sunday for a single game on Senior Day Sunday, April 30th at 12 p.m. UAlbany will honor its four-member senior class on Friday for Senior Day. Great Dane seniors Liz Snow, Mackenzie Cleary, Kayla Bailey, and Caitlin Cooper will be honored in a pregame ceremony on Sunday. The Great Danes return to UAlbany after playing a non-conference game last weekend against Lehigh. Due to weather, only one game of the doubleheader was played. The Mountain Hawks took the win 14-5 over the Great Danes in 5 innings. Against Lehigh, Aliyah Wade had a standout performance with two triples going 2-3 at the plate. UAlbany now sits with a record of 18-15. In their last conference matchup the Great Danes faced UMBC and split the series 2-1. The Great Danes currently sit fifth in conference with a record of 3-7.
By switching roles this spring, Neven Sussman moved from a double threat to a triple threat for the University at Albany Great Danes.
ALBANY, N.Y.— Softball will host Binghamton at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, May 2nd. This is the third game of the series which was originally scheduled for April 26th. Therefore, UAlbany's game against Syracuse scheduled for May 2nd is now cancelled in order to fit in the conference game against the Bearcats.
The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced that UAlbany lacrosse players Connor Fields and Sarah Martin have been selected as 2017 Tewaaraton Trophy nominees.
Where the first two days of the Penn Relays focused exclusively on the multis events, the rest of the University at Albany track & field team in attendance at the Relays jumped into action on Thursday, the first full day of competition. Thursday featured mostly women's events, but some of the Great Dane men got into the action as well.
