The UAlbany men's lacrosse team has been honored as an America East sport GPA champion for the 2016-17 season.
Three current University at Albany track & field student-athletes competed this past weekend. Adrian Mitchell, fresh off his All-America Second Team performance in the men's javelin at NCAA Outdoor Championships returned home to his native Jamaica to compete in Jamaica Senior Outdoor Championships. Fellow rising sophomores Hannah Reinhardt and Omahri Sturdivant participated in the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships. Finally, UAlbany alumna Grace Claxton also competed at Jamaica Senior Outdoor Championships for her native Puerto Rico in an effort to qualify for IAAF World Outdoor Championships in London later this summer.
Helga Einarsdottir has been selected to represent Iceland in the European Team Championship July 11-15 in Montado Resort, Portugal. The Icelandic Golf Association's Sport Director Jussi Pitkänen announced the UAlbany freshman to the highest league. Einarsdottir is one of two rookies on the six-member women's A-national team. The UAlbany women's golf head coach Colleen Cashman-McSween is very proud of Einarsdottir's accomplishment. "What an honor it is for Helga to have been selected to represent her country of Iceland at the European Ladies Championship in Portugal. I am very proud of everything that she has accomplished in her short time as a Great Dane. I am really looking forward to her being a leader for our team and a force to be reckoned with in the MAAC Conference," said Cashman-McSween. Einarsdottir individually tied for third overall at the 2017 MAAC Championship helping lead her team to a second-place overall finish. "Helga works very hard at her game during the season and has been playing in tournaments every week during the summer as well. Playing in this National European Championship will be such an amazing experience for her. I couldn't be more gratified to have this outstanding student athlete here at UAlbany," said Cashman-McSween.
The University at Albany track & field program will send two representatives to compete in the 2017 USATF Junior National Championships in Sacramento, Calif. The women's team will send rising sophomore Hannah Reinhardt to compete in the 5,000m, and the men will sent rising sophomore Omahri Sturdivant to compete in the triple jump.
